Zobrist out a month; cuts made

The Rays have another troubling injury concern as INF Ben Zobrist sustained a fractured left thumb in Sunday's game and will be out a month.
Zobirst Zobrist was being groomed for a key super-utility role, as well as being the backup shortstop, and the Rays are hoping he can return by mid-April. The Rays don't have an obvious alternative for the super-utility role, but Andy Cannizaro is the likely frontrunner to make the team as the backup shortstop. The Rays also could consider promoting prospect Reid Brignac.
Executive VP Andrew Friedman also said the Rays should have a more definitive update on the status of OF Rocco Baldelli by midweek.
Also, the Rays made their first roster cuts of the spring, reassigning to minor-league camp RHP Wade Davis, LHP Jake McGee and C Matt Spring and optioning out OF Fernando Perez, LHP James Houser and C John Jaso.

BTY, what the F is up with this cryptic crap when posting comments?

Guys, Ben can do 1st, 2nd, ss, 3rd and working on OF, utility player, so he needs to work on hitting, but give him a break

raysfan

naysfar -- get back to me when zobrist can hit above .180.

kyle

Ben is an adequate AAAA level player. He's not the bigs, and not AAA. No huge loss here

lp

CUT BALDELLI AND END THIS MADNESS!!!

The contempt for Zobrist from Rays fans is pathetic. He's had a bad first 1/2 season's worth of major league at bats (280) and Rays fans consider him a joke. He has still NEVER had an OBP under .400 in the minors and he's only hit under .300 once (last year's .279 in AAA). The Rays could do alot worse filling their utility role. Like, say, Andy Cannizaro.

guh... zobrist. we can do a lot better than zobrist. not the most troubling loss i can think of.
