Rays turn into action heroes

Si_bizarro_color The Rays made the cover of the upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated -- sort of. A comic cover -- the first in SI's history -- shows a Rays player, who is supposed to be Carl Crawford, holding aloft a Yankees player, who is supposed to be Derek Jeter. The illustration, featuring Superman villain Bizarro, goes with SI's theme for the surprising start to the season: ''Bizarro Baseball.''

Sports Illustrated

Sorry guys ... had to release that cover picture just so that you could get beat like a bunch of dogs in Oakland on Wednesday ... you know, the jinx and all!

Kenneth: move out of the ghetto ... you won't need as many policemen around if you don't live next door to a crack house

getoverit

Please, would people get over Gomes. He is a HORRIBLE outfielder so he's a 1 trick pony. He booted a ball in left on Wednesday that cost a run........then he hit a homerun.......so he's EVEN. Just because he hits .230 and puts one out every now and then, doesn't make him a quality player...........he at the bottom tier of moving runners over, fielding. He's a great huslter but I am really tired of all his excuses, "Play me everyday, play me in the field." It's all about 'me' with him and not about the team. I just wish he'd break a finger or something to shut him up. We need a real power hitting right hander that can actually play a position.

Jesse

There will be NO jinx so dont even think along those terms... Its great to see us getting respect (hence the topic of my custom made Rays shirt you will see me rockin this weekend) ..With a day off and the homestand coming up, ill be front row LC cherring them on all weekend.. Gomes needs to start more than once every 8 games, thats all im gonna say about that!!!!!

matt

Oh NO...........NOt the SI jinx!!!!

bayrays

Tim -
Not sure what you were looking at, but your link clearly shows a cover stating "Featuring the MIGHTY RAYS - the LAST PLACE YANKEES" on the flipping COVER. Who cares that the description that is underneath states that...NO ONE else is going to notice that. Stop picking on the negatives - look at the positives

bayrays

This has NOTHING to do with the stadium. Just praise the team for a job well done...thus far!

Kenneth

The stadium has nothing to do with the Rays record - it has to do with the quality of life of those living around downtown St. Pete, and the burden on tax payers during a time of massive cuts. I love the Rays, but they can pick up and move out of Florida if it means more police on our streets.

mlm

Do you see this St. Pete? That's the Rays. On Sports Illustrated.
Maybe you're not paying attention because you're freaking out about a Major League team playing 81 games (plus postseason) at a site that only has hosted Spring Training. Please turn down the new stadium so Tampa can get The Mighty Rays.

Rex

Nice!!! Go Rays!!!

Tim

When you look online at the cover the following is below it.

"On the Cover:

Derek Jeter, Baseball, New York Yankees"

What about mentioning the RAYS as well.

See for yourself http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/covers/issues/2008/0526.html

Joe

Hmmmm.......now will people believe this team is for real and vote to BUILD A NEW STADIUM!

Mike C

"Break up the Bucs” cover. Break up the “Mighty Rays” cover. New uniforms for both and the curse is officially broken! The “devil” has been cast out. I’m feeling connected with our national pastime. I can’t even tell you what this means to me and my Little Engine that Could town on the bay. I love the Rays! See you at the game Saturday night.

Jimmy Mack

Great!!! I can't wait to buy it. It does seem like a season straight from the funny pages, but they are for real! Now, if we can just get the Orioles to knock out the BoSox, we will go all the way!!!

sevenyearhawk

SWEET!

The Rays great season makes me wish I still lived in Florida ...

Six inches of snow in the Midwest has this effect on me as well!! :D

Ray F

They said on the game last night that the issue was supposed to come out today. I haven't gotten to the store yet, but I will be getting one when I see it.

Go Rays!

Raymond the Rays Mascot

I think they hit news stands later this week. I'll get one as a keeper, we've been waiting a long time for something like this. It's our time to shine a little.

Go Rays & get out to the Trop when they return and help urged the team on.

Let's hope this can continue, it's going to be a fun summer 08'.

rayray

Wow, SI's first comic cover featuring the Rays, more history being made w/Rays turning into national media darlings & how can one not like this team.

Throw him into the BAY to rot on the bottom C.C. where he belongs. It's Rays time now.

Brent

When does this issue come out? GO RAYS!!!!!
