Kaz is AL's Mr. May
The Rays head to Boston this afternoon with some good news as Scott Kazmir was named the American League's Pitcher of the Month after going 5-1 with a 1.22 ERA in six May starts.
"It's a nice honor,'' Kazmir said. "Everything is coming along well and my arm strength is getting better. I've got great defense behind me. I hope to continue to progress as the season goes on.''
After a rocky season debut in Boston May 4, Kazmir won five straight and didn't allow more than one run or four hits in any of the games.
Kazmir is the first Ray to win a monthly player or pitcher of the week award, which are voted on by media throughout the league. He will receive a trophy and a Sharp LCD-TV.
Earlier Monday, CF B.J. Upton was a runner-up for the AL Player of the Month award that was won (for the second time this season) by former Rays prospect Josh Hamilton, now with Texas.

I hear that Kaz has been working with James Shields to improve his changeup. He very well may end up being the best starter in all of baseball. Kaz is that talented.
