Tradewinds blowing?
The Denver Post reports Sunday what others have, that the Rays have interest in Rockies closer Brian Fuentes, and says they are "preparing to make the most aggressive play.''
What is most interesting are the names dropped into the article, RHP prospects Wade Davis and Jeremy Hellickson, which would seem a steep price for what could be a rental player.

as for carter and whoever posted up as my name edgar is dumb, sure Friedman needs to wise but you two are very dumb. It is Brian Fuentes we are talking about not CC Sabathia dumb*****. Brian Fuentes is worth is a mid level prospect not two of the Rays best prospects. If you throw in Matt Holliday and Fuentes for Wade Davis and Fernando Perez now we are talking, Fuentes for Hell Boy and W Davis no thank you. You two dopes for questioning me for that, you carter and whoever posted my name in there are both baseball idiots. Look at the Yankees, they get a big player and the Yankees give up junk to other teams.
Carter, yes it is truth about Friedman that he makes other teams happy. For example; instead of trading Dukes for a reliever like Jon Rauch; he gets a low A pitcher that I have never heard of. He needs to get value in return not to be satisified with a low A pitcher. Imagine if they had Jon Rauch right now; they would not have to rely on guys like Al Reyes to comeback from injuries along with Troy Percival breaking down.

Fuentes for Hellickson I can live with, but Wade Davis should be considered as untouchable as Price right now. I'd go a little deeper to get Nady, maybe even giving EJ, who may be as valuable as he ever will be to the club right now. Yes, the chemistry is excellent right now, but a well thought out deal can be a reminder that they are somewhere they have never been and need to keep their foot on the gas!

JETER RULES! I don't need no stinkin' logic ... I'm from NY!
GIAMBROID KICKS @SS TOO!

In my opinion, the fans should have no say in who goes to the all star game. I dont think anyone pays attention to stats anymore. Its all about the name. Jeter should not even be in a major league uniform right now. Have you seen his stats? Our top prospects perform better than he has. I think I saw that he has over 200 errors in his career as a short stop. The voting should be done by the players and managers alone. Either that or select 1 or 2 players from each team and thats who you vote for.

Do not make any trades. The Rays have chemistry. Balfour has the demeanor and makeup of a closer. I truly believe Baldelli will be back by the end of the year and will contribute.

I wasn't calling you out Nathan. I know you're as much a fan as anyone, but this voting thing will probably prove my earlier points about the population discrepancies of various markets. As far as the players voting Varitek in, I'm dumbfounded.

I'll do this trade.... Hellickson, E.Jackson, R.Brignac and a player to be named if needed for M.Holliday and Fuentes and deal only with the Rocks. I doubt the Rocks will want Brignac already having Tulo, maybe we can throw in F.Perez(OF) instead. Otherwise, I think Nady or Bay would work as well if the Rocks want too much for Holliday.

Vote for Longo or die!

Just Voted for Longoria about 300 times!! EVERYONE VOTE FOR LONGO NOW!!! takes two mins to vote a few dozen times...get to it!!!

Edgar, you may be an idiot. Single A? No way. We gotta give up something. Prolly one good prospect (bulls)plus one low level for Fuentes and a near top prospect for any outfielder we've been linked to, Nady, Holladay, Bay..(I'd throw Ried and E-Jack for any of the three outfielders mentioned)

Edgar - How are you going to question Friedman? He needs to learn how to be wise? So do you for making a statement like that.
Posted by: Carter | July 06, 2008 at 09:52 PM
If I was Andrew Friedman, I will tell the Rockies to get lost (Wade Davis and Jeremy Hellickson PLEASE!!). He needs to rip somebody off. He is a player for Fuentes: Mitch Talbot, James Houser or single A player; that is what he is worth for. I will take Fuentes or Rauch. Get Xavier Nady for low level player. I think Fuentes and Nady are worth single A or player to name later to give up. Friedman needs to learn how to be wise instead of making people happy.

Razzlegator - I've spent nearly 90 minutes (off and on) voting for Longo. I have a repetitive-motion disorder now, but I'll suck it up. I think the fact that the Rays are so under-represented (in comparison to two other ALE teams who shall remain nameless Yankees and Red Sox), will prompt baseball fans, (and I mean real baseball fans who can appreciate Dustin Pedroia's talent even if he seems like an arrogant frat boy), to vote Longo.
Note re tonight's game:
Jabba the Hut looks good so far. But so does Timmy Wakefield. For tonight I'm all about the Yankees.

If they ask too much, we have to be smart enough to say no. The price they might be asking is way to high for what could be a rental. If he was the second coming of Dennis Eckersly when he was a closer, but I don't think he is anywhere near that a two guys for him is likely too steep. Everyone is going to try to swipe as much as they can from our rich minor league system, I don't think the wall street guys are that foolish.

Hellickson for Fuentes would be a great trade. I like the rotation of Kazmir/Price/Shields/Wade Davis/Garza. Not to mention Sonnenstein, Jeff Niemann, Edwin Jackson ect. I would be angry if they traded Davis, he is going to be the real deal.
Posted by: Jeff | July 06, 2008 at 07:27 PM
The Rockies are delusional if they think they are getting either, Price,Davis or Hellickson for Fuentes.Niemann may be a possibility though.

we'll give them a yearly 2 week time-share on St. Pete Beach.

Don't give up Davis AND Hellickson!!!! These guys have front line potential in 2-4 years

david or hellickson would be too much for fuentes.

OK Nathan, it's time for that fan support. Gotta get Longoria voted onto the AllStar team.

12:52 - While I'm flattered that you took the time to mock me, it's pretty disappointing that your effort is so weak.
Posted by: The Real Nathan | July 06, 2008 at 02:07 PM
the author obviously just looked at a list of Rays prospects and picked a few he'd heard of; there is a 0% chance they give up any of our top 10 prospects, which includes both mentioned.
Posted by: david | July 06, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Dance with the one you brung, Dandy Don Meridith would say. How true. Balfour looked pretty effective closing last night. Keep Percival and Floyd for the sage advice, but don't give up prospects for itinerants.
Posted by: Razzlegator | July 06, 2008 at 01:25 PM
And management, for the love of God, don't mess with this.
Posted by: Brian | July 06, 2008 at 01:16 PM
Nathan, you're pretty incoherent for this early in the day.
Posted by: Brian | July 06, 2008 at 01:10 PM
I was hoping the Rays were gonna be more agressive in terms of adding a Closer or SP before a RF'r. Percival shouldn't be allowed within 10 feet of the mound these days.

Yell! Should be! Waah!
