No Rocco

Manager Joe Maddon said although he is "very confident" OF Rocco Baldelli will return to the Rays, it won't happen today.

Maddon said the two had a good conversation, and that the plan is for Baldelli to go through regular pre-game activities today and re-visit the situation on Tuesday.

"I’ve been waiting a long time to come back, and it seems like it's going to happen," Baldelli said. "And I’m pretty excited about it."

The paper keeps saying as soon as Bartlett can play the field then Rocco will be promoted. Looks like they'll place Aybar on the DL for his hammy.

Jonathan

I really, really, really cant wai until they activate ROCCO BALDELLI! SO ACTIVATE HIM NOW JOE MADDEN!

Jonathan

we need need rocco baldelli back because him and longoria are my two favorite players so activate baldelli now!

Harold

I have spent much time wondering about Bonds myself.
I can understand how he could potentially poisen the clubhouse and turn it into a freakin three ring circus.
I just wonder though why NO ONE has picked him up. Could he be any worse than Manny? I don't see how. And yea I have read all the asterisk nonsense but Giambi seems to have weathered just fine.
I'm not saying I want him and Im not saying I dont ,but it makes for interesting fodder after acouple of cocktails.

David

I agree on Bonds. The man can hit left handed pitching. Middle in - he has a way of keeping it fair and gets lots of free passes in walks. It's a half year solution, why not get the best available? Yeah, we respect that the Rays have this great chemistry and we don't want troublemakers, at least not long term. But we're in 1st with two strong teams fighting to take that away and we're going to have to hold them on the road. Signing Bonds is for the playoffs.

chuck

I still say they should sign Barry Bonds to the league minimum. Would give them some much needed POP and I think he would be humbled in the locker room. They guy would protect hitters and he was an ALL STAR last year. Would sell tix and generate interest on tv also.

Steve

How long do we have to endure Gomes killing us? Baldelli can DH and Gross can continue to be the RF defensive replacement. It seems if Baldelli were to just DH, he would conserve much more energy, rather than playing RF,even part time.

philip

Why don't we just Activate Rocco now and also call up Justin Ruggiano and drop Gomes and Gross.

If Rocco is able to play out the remainder of the season as our everyday right fielder it'll be the comeback of all comebacks...

Willy

Rocco's a fan favorite but he's not the answer. He lacks power and will likely be coddled to the degree that he never gets comfortable and in the rhythm of the game. (Upton just popped up with them loaded...GRRR).

Jason

We need to act NOW and not plan for September 1. We're thirsting for a right handed bat and perhaps Rocca will inject some energy into the lineup. Furthermore, it's time to bring up David Price and send Sonnanstine to the pen. He's gaining nothing at this point in AA. Bring him up and strengthen this team for the stretch run.

Bill

Believe me, I want him to play now. I can see them, however, putting him on one more 20 game rehab assignment(playing part time like he would here) and stretch him out til September 1st when the rosters expand. However, I think that's a big risk to try and keep Jonny Gomes or Gabe Gross. No offense but those type of guys are a dime a dozen.

Melissa

Bill,
I hope that's not the case. I was hoping he'd play Wednesday when I finally get to go to the game. Its been AGES (atleast a week) since I was at the Trop. LOL. But it does make sense to wait until the roster is expanded.

Bill

I agree with the last post. I think they are struggling with who to move down, although it has to be Gomes......Gross is the defensive late inning guy and I don't think they can count on Rocco for that. They also may be considering keeping Rocco out til September 1st when the rosters expand and the Rays wouldn't lose anyone.

brandon

rays cant bring up rocco until they know if they have to bring zobrist up to replace bartlett.

SIVAD NEK

I think the reason for the delay is for the Rays to make up their mind on the roster move that will have to be made.

mario

cc and j bart out tonight and no rocco?? oo wait we got jonny gomes nvrmind

Gary

Unbelievable! Rocco is not going to be any different physically now, than he will be in a couple of days.Activate him!
