Tuesday's game "in doubt"
The Rays don't know any more about Tropical Storm Fay's path than anyone else, but they are operating under the presumption that Monday's game with the Angels will be played and Tuesday's game may not be, with the hope of resuming the series on Wednesday.
"We're playing the game on Monday,'' Rays president Matt SIlverman said. "If the storm maintains its current path Tuesday would be in doubt and then we'll make a call on Wednesday based on Tuesday. We're in communication with the league and with the Angels about it, and we're hopeful we're going to get the series in. Two out of three is the most likely case but with the unpredictability of the storms it's pretty much a wait-and-see game.''
A decision on Tuesday's game likely will be made Monday night, he said.
Silverman said there is a chance, albeit unlikely, of playing a doubleheader on Wednesday (which would be the second in Tropicana Field history). More likely, the Angels would return on Sept. 1, which is a mutual off-day for both teams. "We know there's a time we can make up the game, or games.''
The Angels traveled to the Tampa Bay area on Sunday night, though Silverman said there was "a possibility" they could leave the area after Monday's game and go to Atlanta or Miami and wait to see what happens - "it all depends on the path of the storms.''
.

Just my luck--- I signed up for the Rays newsletter from the times to get tickets for Tuesday. Soubt they'll give me a raincheck,:(

My use of "Tampa" was improper.
I lived in St. Pete Beach for three years, so I'm pretty familiar with the area ...
This could acutally work in the Rays favor ... giving them a few days to rest and recover, when they aren't running for their lives.
I'm sure they have people to "buy their water" even the ones that aren't paid as well.
Can you imagine Kaz, Longo or Rocco in line at the Home Depot for plywood? :p

Wow, Tom in Tampa. Are you unaware of the 26 miles of shoreline that Tampa has on Tampa and Hillsborough bays? Tampa is indeed a coastal city and is just as vulnerable to the full brunt of a hurricane as a municipality in Pinellas is. Additionally, the current track has the storm coming much closer to Tampa than to St. Pete. I would have to say that you are propagating false information, and when a storm is nigh, that is dangerous.

Sevenyearhawk - The hurricane isn't going to hit Tampa, because Tampa isn't a coastal city. Except for some street flooding along Bayshore, no worries in Tampa. However, St. Petersburg, where the Rays play, is a coastal city and is being threatened.
If the game happens, expect a small crowd, as the bridges might be closed. Even if they're not traffic will be minimal (its a bit too exciting to be on the Howard Frankland when waves are crashing onto the road).

Lamar, do you really think he was serious? He said "get a bunch of candles". If he was serious, then he suggested they use candles to light a dome enough to play a baseball game. Why would you even respond to someone who would seriously suggest such a thing? Why am I responding to someone who would think he was seriously suggesting such a thing?
I think it's the "candles" part that should have tipped you off to the idea that he might have been joking around a little bit there.

To meathead:
"its in a dome!! get a bunch of candles and play the friggin game!!"
There's a lot more at stake than baseball. Maybe the storm won't hit us but the players are humans too. Not just entertainment machines. They have families, wives, kids, dogs, water to buy, etc. Not to mention that Tropicana is used alot like the Superdome in New Orleans was. Are you serious?

A hurricane threatening a SERIOUSLY meaningful series in Tampa ... wow, what a crazy scenario.
Might be good to have to make them return for a single game in Sept. in a game that could likely decide home-field for the ALCS.
What a year!
Stay safe, everyone!!!!

The bad news of a possible make-up game on 9/1 is that the Rays start a really tough stretch on 9/2 (9 games between 9/2 and 9/17 are vs. New York or Boston). That day off would have been really nice for the Rays.
