As a follow up
I just went and checked stub hub
No where does it say that the Club is involved in the sale of tickets. It says "Fans" and "Third Parties"
I think that qualifies as clearly deceptive. And FYI I am a season ticket holder and have placed my deposit for next year so Im not whinning cause I didnt get my tickets. Im just saying its devious and deceptive that the MLB clubs should be involved in Scalping while hiding behind the word "FANS".

I think SKP made my point better than I did. I agree that the season ticket holder issue is valid but the "sale " of post season tickets to stub hub by the clubs is what I have a problem with.
I understand that increased profits is the motivation of any business. I was just surprised when i learned of the number of tickets "sold " to stub hub .
I guess it makes sense for the clubs to go into the scalping business. The direct sales of tix to stub hub by the clubs was not "hidden" but not widely know. It has been painted as a way for "fans " to buy and sell tickets with the clubs approval. The Stub Hub site doesnt notify either party (seller or buyer)that the MLB club gets a cut of the fees. And selling post season tickets this way, they might as well be upfront and auction them off. the real problem I have is the deception of limiting the sale of tickets at face value while 'Selling" tickets to stub hub for marked up prices.

9equals8, that's not the point...it's great for regular fans to sell unwanted tix, but when MLB sells to stubhub before fans have a chance to pay face value, that's a scam...MLB gets a kickback, StubHub gets to sell tickets they get at $20 for $100, and who gets screwed? Me and everyone else. Bad enough that StubHub takes 15% from the seller and 10% from the buyer, now they ARE the seller.
MLB and the other leagues have basically endorsed the largest scalper in the country and supplied them with inventory that the fans obviously want.

hey everyone, I couldnt finish HS and i aint smart enough to trade stocks, so rather than work at Taco Bell i learn how to buy & sell tix!
I buy tix from fans and then don't really do a damn thing other than sell them for a big profit and never pay any taxed!
american way!

Harold - this has been known for some time and it was not kept a secret. As a season tickerholder, I am very happy that MLB/Rays and all other teams decided to do this. 1) I buy 81 games and it's not humanly possible to go to all of them, 2) non season tickerholder fans can have access to incredible seats that would not otherwise be easily available and 3) the relationship with StubHub allows season ticketholders to sell their tickets up to 2 hours before the game without having to worry about shipping, etc. through the e-delivery method. All of this goes to making it better and easier to be a season tickerholder (the prime target customer for MLB teams), which is great for fans and great for the club's future (e.g. ability to finance player contracts, etc.). Sure, they get revenue from it, but who is surprised given that MLB/the Rays are a profit-seeking business? The bottom line is that buying season tickets is the way to go if you want to see games and participate in playoff tickets. And, you don't even have to buy a full season ticket package - you can sign up for a partial package.

Helene, The reason its a day game today is because Detroit has some kind of Senior Day promotion for the old farts.

I found this link which explains the scarcity of post season tickets. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi ticketssep25,0,239515.story
I didnt realize that MLB and STUB HUB were in it together. Way to go MLB. Just when the fans had forgiven and forgotten about the strike MLB finds a way to stick it to them. If you sell your tickets on Stub Hub the Rays actually get a cut of the 25% service fee. Isnt that sweet.

AMANDA
I was glad to see you calling out the 'DUK" on Big League Stew.
I wish I could join you for the game but I guess I'll be checking the game on the "Game Channel" on the ole computer.
Clinching today

The nice thing about them clinching today is that I am around about 10 Rays Fans and we will all be together to CELEBRATE. Its time Rays fans! See you all at game 1 and 2.

Finally, a benefit to being part of the high unemployment numbers. I get to watch the Rays clinch tomorrow without missing anything!
Posted by: Rays Fan | September 25, 2008 at 03:11 AM
I was at the game at Baltimore tonight (what a beautiful stadium, by the way) and was hoping and praying for a clinch. Lots of Rays fans were at the game and there was a rally to try to talk everyone into hopping on a first in the AM flight to Detroit. It was a blast and we even had a chance to talk to some of the players. Those of you that have never gone to see the Rays on the road should do it at some point - I've met lots of great die hards on the road this year.

Amanda: My office is out in northeast Tampa, unfortunately. Thanks though. Have fun. :)
Posted by: Helene | September 24, 2008 at 11:46 PM
Helene, where are ya? A few of us might get together at a bar here in St. Pete to catch the game.
Posted by: Amanda | September 24, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Why, oh why is the potential clincher tomorrow a day game, during work hours? Grrrrr. Curse you, Scheduling Gods!
*thinks about hatching a plan to sneak off to a sports bar toward the end of the game*
Posted by: Helene | September 24, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Yeah, let's clinch tomorrow and get the hangovers out of the way. We need clear heads for the playoffs. Oh, but I will take an Angels loss or two.
Posted by: Brian J | September 24, 2008 at 11:25 PM
scalp your tickets on ebay like everybody else. Leave the Rays boards out of it.
Posted by: Bob | September 24, 2008 at 11:20 PM
I'm with you, Brian. Instead, they get to clinch tomorrow, during the day, alone. No other games to worry about, just focus on themselves and celebrate! Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon. Should be a great birthday present :)

Good. I like the idea of winning the division more than Boston losing it.
