Brawl at the Trop

Apparently the Red Sox-Rays rivalry was too much for Rays fans to handle after a painful loss. Or maybe they were taking a cue from their team.

Either way, about half a dozen Rays and Red Sox fans brawled after the game let out tonight. At one point, a Red Sox fan was on the ground with several Rays fans on top, beating him against the window-walls near the exit of Gate 6.

Bystanders helped break up the fight, but then it started again. Both bouts lasted just a few minutes. No police officers or Rays security assisted. A man watching the fight asked aloud, "Where are the cops?"

And, you've got to admit the cowbells are a great home-park prop.

the stupid air bats in LA are worse, and it didn't help them any.

There's some bitter feelings between the two food groups. Some fans took it personally if you tried to be complimentary (e.g. "What an incredible season it's been" "[screw] you Sox fan! - {waiting in line for beer))" Okay - what's the response to that: "Can't we all just get along? My 401 k's in the tank, too."? Really, do I have to hate the Rays and their fans (including half my family) because I like the Red Sox? It's enough to make you want to ring a bell.

And, you've got to admit the cowbells are a great home-park prop. At one point it got so bad I turned to the Rays fan next to me and said "I surrender, just stop the bells." No more chanting from me that night. Unlike the public areas, where I sat all the fans, both sides, were great and enjoyed the game. It's a long series so no crowing here - don't want to get the cowbells started again.

Oh and don't think the media doesn't aid to this behavior. Channel 8 was live before the game interviewing some drunk a-holes running up to Boston fans as they were arriving and harrassing them. Classy.

Try the main sports page - this is a blog, where such things are discussed. It was pretty ridiculous in there last night.

I also saw a Rays fan get hauled out by the cops for spitting on another Rays fan... What?

There are 10 blog entries here today regarding fights or at least uneasy interactions between fans. Wasn't there also a game being played?

(reminding myself not to feed the trolls here, also)

thank you for saying that, Craig. What came to mind is, disagreeing without being disagreeable.

Plenty of bad behavior on both sides last night. Way to sink to their level, newbie Rays fans. I hate these retarded bandwagoners more than the sox fans.

I saw two drunk, loud idiots in Rays gear harassing a young lady in sox gear when she was outside alone having a cigarette last night. They were talking loudly in her face, and waving their hands and pointing at her. She said it had happened every time she'd stepped outside all night.

I love the Rays and all, but it's a FREE COUNTRY. God grow up. Idiots.
