ESPN still struggles to locate the Trop

Ontotampa100108ESPN seems to understand that the Dallas Cowboys play in Irving, Texas, not Dallas. We think they could even correctly tell you that the New York Giants and Jets play in New Jersey, not New York. And we're fairly certain they could even direct you to a Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim home game.

But the network persists in its stubborn refusal to learn that the Rays play in St. Petersburg, as evidenced by this ESPN.com home page announcement of the White Sox victory over the Twins in last night's one-game playoff. (Click image to enlarge)

SAINT PETE

I care - get it right ESPN. Either say Tampa BAY or Saint Pete. Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter were both riddled with Tampa references. It's not a huge deal, but it says to me that they really don't give a #@*#.

They will learn, as this miracle continues. LOUD and PROUD.

GO RAYS REPUBLIC!!!

It sounds like SPT is struggling.
Rick Baker doesn't care.

9equals8.com, Thank you for pointing out how bad the postgame show was. Cal actually forgot what he was talking about twice and had to have the question asked to him again!
Sometimes, the worst players make the best broadcasters.....

In the words of the great Charlie Brown: "Good grief." Making crossword puzzle creators apologize and 'tsk'ing ESPN is getting old. Petition the TEAM, not ESPN, for a name change if you can't handle the Rays being from Tampa to the rest of the nation. When the Giants won the Super Bowl, they didn't say they were bringing the Lombardi Trophy to New Jersey, did they? Oh, and guess what city will be credited with the World Series win if the Rays pull it off... that's right, Tampa. Who knows, maybe the team would be wise to actually move there, then maybe more people would go to the games, because it seems like the only time "St Pete" cares about the team is when they don't get credit for the location.

Who really cares, anyway. BTW - did anyone else watch the postgame show (Inside MLB) on TBS last night? It is quite possibily the WORST postgame show I've ever watched. My all caps writing doesn't even come close to telling you how bad it really way. No offense to Cal and Dennis, but they are so clueless that it's painful to watch. I really hope they make some adjustments going into the meat of the post season.

One of the Sox players said, "We're going to Tampa," so maybe they quoted that. As for The Cowboys and Giants comparisons, they've played in those locations for about 30 years, so people know. Better comparison is the Redskins (who play in Maryland, not D.C.) or Patriots (who play closer to Rhode Island than Boston).

We need to all lobby and tell ESPN to correctly state the city of Tropicana Field's location. See below.
