Game 5 of the World Series between the Rays and Philadelphia Phillies will resume tonight at Citizens Bank Park, Major League Baseball announced today in a news release.
The game will resume at 8:37 p.m., with the score tied at 2 in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Phillies coming to bat.
Game 6, if necessary, is scheduled for Thursday night at Tropicana Field.

Still love my Rays. Love you guys here, too. It's been an amazing season. I'll never, ever forget this journey.
Congrats, Phillies fans. Enjoy this.
Taking a few days away from these boards. I'm emotionally spent. Then, it's time to start thinking about next season...

(hic)What?

Why in the H@ll was howell kept in to bunt. Who gives a flying flip about trying to save a pitcher to pitch to a person......you have every pitcher available and he sends out a guy to give up an out, with 1 out already, when you only have 8 left to begin with. Freaking stupid. Maddon's blind dart toss bullseyes finally caught up to him. That was a minor league managing job.

Rays FAIL!!!
Posted by: Frank | October 29, 2008 at 10:01 PM
I'm calling it now. Price wins a Cy Young in the next three years. He is solid and has great control over great stuff.

My mistake, it was CC on deck. But he's had a hot bat, too...

Could the FOX production team be any more pro-PHL? The last two games they've played the "Rocky" theme every half inning. (Conversely, I think the commentators themselves have been pretty neutral, as they should be.)
Just wondering, I'm with you - don't understand why they sent Bartlett. If they already had the lead, maybe - but not when the score is tied, and especially not with BJ on deck. Leave the guy on third and hope BJ can get him home.
Posted by: E in ATL | October 29, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Hey, Brant,
What was the deal with sending Bartlett home? Did they assume the throw would go to first or just thought he could beat the throw regardless?

It's over.. Rays are done!

The Phillies parade will be the long somber walk from the Trop back to their rental cars after game 7.
Posted by: CYa | October 29, 2008 at 05:54 PM
YOU missed it.
It RAINED on your parade.
There is NO Philly parade.
Posted by: You missed it | October 29, 2008 at 05:50 PM
You got it 9=8.
Don't be surprised if you see Shields early. No over thinking this one tonight.
You put all the chips on the money players; Big Game BJ and Big Game James. Lots of ground balls plays in Rays court.
The Rays have proven they can score without a single hit.
The Phillies have proven they can't score with men on base.
The rest is sweet music on plane flight to Game 6.

That rainstorm was your Steve Bartman, Phillies. It's all over but the crying now. Rays are winning it all, mark my words.

Another great story on there jimmyray:
With 5-1/2 innings of World Series Game 5 already in the books, a question arises of great concern to many Phillies fans going to Citizens Bank Park tonight:
Will beer sales be cut off after the seventh inning?

Go to Philly.com and read about everyone in Philly planing a victory parade on Friday. That is good bulletin board material. Lets bring the series back to the TROP. GO RAYS

Bring it back home Rays!!!

For all those that wish to recall the BJ Bashing, here you go:

As for the game, I like the idea of the Phillies burning 2 PH'ers in the bottom of 6.
The likely sequence of events is as follows:
Balfour to begin bot 6th
Phillies to PH for Hamels with lefty
Howell comes in for Balfour
Phillies to PH with righty
Howell K's righty
Howell them finishes the 6th and 7th followed by David Price in the 8th and 9th (DP could come in a little early if needed).

And I thought the Philly trolls were annoying.....
Posted by: Sue | October 29, 2008 at 05:08 PM
I have a feeling the Rays are taking this whole series.

Yah Sarah Palin and her quarter million dollar wardrobe really care about you Joe the taxpayer. WAKE UP, HAVE SOME HUMILITY FOR ONCE IN YOUR MISERABLE LIFE Jethro!!!!!

Enough with the political BS already! You wanna talk McCain/Obama, go here: http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz If you wanna talk baseball, stay here.
The 1st pitch has been announced at "8pm" for the last week, yet it's always thrown at 8:30 or later...know why? It's not cause of political infomercials. It's cause Fox thinks adding pomp and circumstance to this farce will make it that much better. If they started at 7, they wouldn't have this problem, but unfortunately, Bud Selig sold MLB's soul as soon as he took over from Interim to permanent Commissioner.
Don't blame a politician this time, because, for a change, it's not their fault!
Posted by: Jimbo | October 29, 2008 at 04:50 PM
The game has always been scheduled for a first pitch after 8:30. Never did the schedule say that the first pitch was at 8:00PM. Please get your facts right and stop blaming your ignorance on your political bias. Blaming others for your failure to get the facts straight only makes you look like ill informed member of society. Meaningful banter is good. Distractions is child's play. Grow up!
Posted by: Tramor | October 29, 2008 at 04:46 PM
It would be a risk, but even if Manual uses one of his big lefties to pinch hit to start the bottom of the 6th, Joe should consider leaving Balfour in. If Hammels said the cold prevented him from throwing his curveball, then going with someone that throws gas might be a better move. This could be a very interesting thing to watch if/when the Phillies put in a closer that throws almost exclusivly sliders!
Posted by: Gene | October 29, 2008 at 04:44 PM
whoever said it's not delaying this game is DEAD WRONG ... tonight's game was originally scheduled to re-start at 8pm, but the communnity organizer decided to use that copher of illegal contributions to make us wait on his command
screw him
Posted by: Brett in da Burgh | October 29, 2008 at 04:42 PM
Does this game mean that there won't be any sales of alcohol after the 7th inning? That's alot of beer guzzling in the 6th inning!
Posted by: Tramor | October 29, 2008 at 04:41 PM
Assuming the game is completed, will the Rays be flying back to St.Pete tonight? Can we meet them? Either way they deserve a welcome home.
Posted by: Rays Fan | October 29, 2008 at 04:28 PM
PUHLEEEEEEAAASE people. Leave the stinking politics out of the only good thing that's happening to this town right now. OK???????
Posted by: Mary | October 29, 2008 at 04:26 PM
The team that wins tonight will be the one that is not afraid to stick their elbow in and take one for the team. If Philly tried to back us off the plate turn away and take it for the team. We need base runners any way that we can get them and what better way to take the wind out of their sails. GO RAYS!
Posted by: Jeff | October 29, 2008 at 04:25 PM
4 runs in the top of the 7th to suck all the tension out of game 5 and put it away, let's do it rays!
Posted by: skp | October 29, 2008 at 04:21 PM
All politics aside, Go RAYS! Bring the series back to St. Pete and let's win it and party in the streets like we did for the Bucs and Lightning!!!!
Posted by: Matt | October 29, 2008 at 04:18 PM
All kidding aside good luck tonight rays fans but I think it's all over.GO PHILS

Give the money to the kids direct and skip the middlemen. Why give the money to Fox? That's just a transfer of funds from the everyday people to the rich Fox company.
Give direct to Boys Clubs and Girls Clubs. Help kids, not Fox.
That's all I'm saying.

Hey Lou! Nope, not a darn thing. Getting some anti-freeze in the old blood are ya?
Posted by: Sue | October 29, 2008 at 04:10 PM
No Lou you didnt miss anything
just a bunch of political blather by people who cant find their way to the right blog

Yo Suzi I'm back from the bar did I miss anything?GO PHILS
Posted by: PHILLY LOU | October 29, 2008 at 04:05 PM
I agree SJ. I thought I was missing something. All this blather about the game being delayed for O's TV spot, when IT ISN'T BEING DELAYED! And, people (like me) donated the money that is being used to air that spot, in the belief that it would be used for purposes just like that. In fact, at the end of the live segment of his spot, I hope O wears a mutant Rays/Phillies hat, and says let's play ball!
Posted by: MikeD | October 29, 2008 at 03:58 PM
If they can just find a way to get this back here - Philadelphia will gag it. That would be worse for them than 1964.
Posted by: Ray | October 29, 2008 at 03:57 PM
I say pitch Balfour in the 6th. Hopefully the rays get a runner on in the 7th and then pinch hit hinske/aybar for the pitcher. Price will then come in and hopefully finish off the game or it least handle Utley/Howard/burrell.

For pete's sake, can't we put aside this election banter for the love of the game?
Posted by: Sue | October 29, 2008 at 03:40 PM
We probably could if they didn't put one of the two socialist candidates on right before, delaying the game!!! Call Fox and ask them if they can put Hussein Obama aside for the love of the game??
Posted by: Matt | October 29, 2008 at 03:50 PM
Well SJ I've been called worse...
by better :)
But seriously, can we keep the political commentary where it belongs? This is the Rays blog afterall.
Posted by: Sue | October 29, 2008 at 03:50 PM
Revenue sharing is not socialism, it's a business contract between multiple parties who have agreed to share a portion of the revenue for the good of all. While it may be modeled after socialistic values, it's a contractual agreement. The government threatening people with jail for not giving up their money freely so they can give to others is socialism. That was a nice try though!!!
Posted by: Matt | October 29, 2008 at 03:46 PM
OOMG SUE U R A SOSHALIST!!!

For pete's sake, can't we put aside this election banter for the love of the game?
Posted by: Sue | October 29, 2008 at 03:40 PM
So if the Rays win, unCommon sense, should they share their winnings with every player in the league, like Obama advocates??? That's socialism. And one question for you, if the white half of Obama was what showed, would you still vote for him as an African American???
Posted by: Matt | October 29, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Well the current revenue sharing agreement is SOCIALISM when the Yankees are giving 40 mil to the Rays when they compete against them in the same division.
Go Capitalism and Go Yankees!!!!
