Asking prices climb for playoff tickets
Now that the American League Championship Series is set -- Rays vs. Red Sox -- the scalpers are upping their prices.
At online sites such as stubhub.com and craigslist.com, more and more people are asking $300 to $500 for their seats, although some are still offering tickets in the $100 range.
The asking price was generally lower Monday, before either team had earned its way into the series.
Some people are seeking really serious money -- like the person trying to sell tickets for $10,900 each for a possible third home game of the League Championship series.

I don't understand why all the complaints about the lottery system. I wasn't picked for either series but was still able to get tickets at face value for game 7 of the ALCS at 300pm the DAY OF THE GAME. Pay attention to your e-mails people and quit complaining. I didnt here any of this nonsense back in July?

Thanks for the MLB ruling, Timmy!
The tarps remain so that MLB and Rays can suck as much money out of the boston economy as possible.
Watch the team give the blue tarp seats away to local charity for free after we have all that irrational red sox exuberence tapped out. Business is great in Tampa Bay.

9=8...And thats why i am a member of your site...You speak the truth, in a professional fashion and you know what your talking about...Unlike half the people on this blog who constantly talk negative and belittle others over the internet...SEE YALL IN THE PIT!!!

I have a 120 inch HD screen (projector) at home and the picture is awesome. Couple that with some high quality surround sound, total darkness, beer that costs less than $1 each and it's a pretty sweet setup, for sure.
BUT, there is NOTHING like being there in person especially if you have someone special to share the experience with (for me, it's my 8-year old and my father - 3 generations). We'll talk forever about the 2008 Rays season (regardless of how far they go) and how we were a there when they won Games 1 and 2 of the ALDS, etc. These memories are priceless to me. In 10 years, it just won't be the same talking about the Rays 2008 season with my son if we watch it on TV vs. being there in person (and the eternal memory my son has with his grandfather is equally valuable). That's why these prices are so silly, because lots of people understand this dynamic. Find someone special that loves baseball and the Rays and share this once in a lifetime experience with them (it'll be the first time only once). You won't regret it.

diog--That's exactly what we were told would happen when we registered for the scam lottery. Someone needs to investigate where all these "extra" codes came from and why ******* were able to buy more than 4 tix per code.
Posted by: | October 08, 2008 at 09:17 AM
The Rays lottery was like the used car operations that flood the area with "winning" tickets. At least the used car operation provides the fine print that defines the operation.
Competently run, the Rays would have divided the number of tickets actually available for sale through the lottery by 4 and limited their "winning" emails to that number. Any tickets then left over would be made available for the general public.

Wow I had no idea Tampa Bay had such an adamant fan base. Prices on Stubhub are ridiculous; they were so much cheaper for the Rockies last year.
Posted by: Dan | October 08, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Dan, I agree with you. We went to game one of the ADLS, actually got seats on the asile in the outfield from stubhub for 68.00 which I thought was pretty good. We somehow missed the boat on Monday when everything seemed to sell out while we were online trying for seats at 9AM. I wanted press level or lodge box... and even now would pay double ...but not more than that...Love the Rays, but wouldn't love to be ripped off. Will stick with the big screen at home.
GO RAYS!!

Anyone who pays 2x or more the face vaule of the ticket is wasting their money. I understand "supply and demand." But what I don't understand is what some fans are willing to pay. I went to game 1 of the ALDS, it was fun and I would have liked to go to the AlCS, but it isn't worth $100+ to sit in the nosebleed seats. Watch it in HD minus the $8 beer.

Tim,
The tarps will be off for the world series. The Rays will be forced to remove the tarp by MLB. And the tarp is on there now because the Rays not MLB.

Um, Red Sox Ricki,
Sorry to tell you this, but our Rays will be pulling the threads out of your Sox in short order.
I grew up in the Bronx and watched the Yankees for decades and I'm telling you that the Rays are going to be the NEW Dynasty in Baseball. Red Sox and Yankees days are numbered. 2008 is only the beginning.

Dodgers or Phils vs Boston in the World Series???
Posted by: Red Sox Ricki | October 07, 2008 at 09:36 PM
I did get 2 outfield, obstructed view tickets for game 1 at $55 each, after waiting 16 minutes online. How did all those people listing blocks of 20+ seats in a section get their tickets? Someone's making some bucks here...
Posted by: Laura | October 07, 2008 at 09:09 PM
The tarps won't be removed. It's pretty much the rule. Stop whining about it. I bit the bullet and put down a deposit for next year, and yep, I got all the tickets. I only say that because I looked on the Angels website (two weeks back) to see how much they were charging, and it was more than double just for the deposit. You think these tickets are expensive? Wait until Postseason 2009. As soon as the Rays realize the demand, they'll up the prices for next season and then the postseason will go through the roof. When thinking about buying tickets for the postseason this year, all I thought was, they will never be this cheap again. I also think WS tickets will be twice as hard to get than ALCS.
Posted by: Go Rays!! | October 07, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Keep your tickets. Who in their right mind would want to sit on a hard seat and pay outrageous prices to the peanut and stale beer vendors?
Posted by: | October 07, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Well Folks,
I didn't get a single ticket either...oh well, Couldn't afford season tickets but went to games all season and LOVE THE RAYS!! So, Those of you who did get tickets, do me a favor...Just Cheer the Rays extra loud, and Boo Boston with a little extra gusto, on behalf of those of us who can't be there..TX ! GO RAYS!!!
Posted by: Nanette | October 07, 2008 at 08:34 PM
1. Stop it with the "get rid of the tarps" nonsense. They are there by MLB mandate. They are not disappearing until the World Series.
2. Stop it with the "why are the ticket prices so low/high" nonsense. Ticket prices are set by MLB. EVERYTHING about these games is managed by MLB.
3. Passwords were obviously leaked and this is unfortunate as those of us who won the email lottery ended up being locked out by ticket brokers.
Posted by: tim | October 07, 2008 at 08:26 PM
You all should realize that some Rays season ticket holders are ticket brokers, and have been for years. This is how you get hard team tickets that soon from a broker Arizona.
Posted by: stubby | October 07, 2008 at 08:21 PM
The One In the Longoria Shirt,
I did the same thing and got 4 seats to each game with no problem right behind the rays bullpen. I wonder if the people complaning even know how to use a computer.
Go rays
Posted by: Josh | October 07, 2008 at 07:59 PM
I'll admit it. I bought a password code on Ebay for $35. It worked and I bought two tickets with it. I'm not gonna resell them. I'm gonna cheer for the Rays in them. But I was surprised that I was able to do that. Please don't beat me up for this. I'm just sharing this information with ya'll. Good luck and GO RAYS!!!!
P.S. Before you go ballistic on me, I bought 46 tickets to home games since May 2008. I bought every ticket just outside the stadium and never paid more than $20. Got a few games for $5 each. I love the Rays! And I'm a girl!!
Posted by: The One In the Longoria Shirt | October 07, 2008 at 07:17 PM
You have a mean wife if you she won't let you go to the game without her.
Posted by: | October 07, 2008 at 07:13 PM
I bought ALDS tickets from a ticket broker in Arizona and when I asked if they were etickets was told, "These are hard team tickets." I paid $57 each for six tickets. I was amazed at how quickly they were available. Now I think I understand. Thanks for the insight, Harold.
Posted by: Kathleen | October 07, 2008 at 07:06 PM
Harlod
No actually I didn't make your point Harold. You said the Rays gave or sold Stub Hub half the tickets to the games.
I said that I had researched the MLB/Stub Hub relationship and nowhere was it released that the MLB would allot Stub Hub any tickets. Nor that the Rays made sales thru Stub Hub (according to what details of the deal had been released). You could be right because all details had and have not been released. But to go out on a limb and tell the fans that they did without having documentation is just not right.
Not sure if I answered your question(s) but if not let me know and I'll try again.

Uh dude
Didnt you just make my point?
Or are you saying the Rays didnt sale tickets thru stub Hub At all?

You would think you have better things to do than to try and scare off 1 person selling a ticket with a story. Although I hear there are big profits in selling 1 ticket that you can not use......in section 214 row F seat 22 for $175.00 email snewbill1@cox.net
Posted by: | October 07, 2008 at 06:50 PM
Becuase I am not trying to trick anybody..just trying to sell my 1 ticket without playing any games.
Why would I not post the price, I dont want anyone contacting me who is not willing to pay what I asked for(which is far less than what you are asking for). I have 1 ticket bro. thus I am not trying to use master logic in advertising my 1 ticket to get the most responses. Cut and dry , have 1 ticket and this is the price...What a concept....
Posted by: | October 07, 2008 at 06:43 PM
luisgarcia813
I am sure you meant to say makes sense or did you mean makes since.... like you wrote....I am selling my 1 ticket for 2x the price plus the cost of Fededxing the ticket.... How about you?????
Posted by: | October 07, 2008 at 06:35 PM
Why would a "scalper" or anyone for that matter post a price thus reducing automatically the number of responses. Not posting them allows interested people to inquire thus opening the art of negotiation... It's quite elementary..
