Rays unveil new alternate jerseys

Sp_300056_borc_raysjersey_1 The Rays unveiled their new navy blue alternate jersey today.

The jersey will be worn occasionally at home games and on the road.

It will debut on May 1 when the Rays play host to the Boston Red Sox.

The jersey is a navy blue button-down with RAYS outlined in white trim with a light blue shadow across
the chest, according to a news release issued by the team.

The sunburst emanating from the “R” is forty percent larger than the sunburst on the team’s home and road jerseys. Light blue piping surrounds the sleeves and collar and extends down the front of the jersey. The player’s name and number are featured on the back (in navy) outlined in white.

“Rays apparel, marked by our signature sunburst and light blue accents, has been embraced by fans throughout the state of Florida and across the nation,” Rays President Matt Silverman said in the release. “The amplified sunburst on our new alternate jersey represents the brightness of our organization and its growing impact throughout the Tampa Bay region and central Florida.”

Fans may purchase the Rays new alternate jersey via raysbaseball.com and raysbeisbol.com, at the Rays Tampa Store at 400 N. Tampa Street and the Rays merchandise store at Tropicana Field.

Now when are they going to spend the $900.00 to freshen up the carpet? Or do we need a $500 million stadium for that?

Mike

Just to add to the chorus -- for a team that claims to want to stay in Tampa Bay, it would help their argument for a new stadium if their away jerseys said "Tampa Bay".
And as far as the green/white colors -- YUCK!! Those were hideous.
The current away jersey color scheme is the best. Don't really like the new alternate -- but mostly because I'd like to see "Tampa Bay" on it.

bazz

'Sure wish the Rays had looked into a robin's egg blue that would have looked great with the burst and regular colors of white and navy. Perhaps for a better road jersey. Yes, I' buy one.

hess

only team in the league without the city/area name on their away jerseys.

We ALL want Tampa Bay on the away jerseys.

CAB

You can buy Rays visors at any sports store in town.

I would also like the road jerseys to say "Tampa Bay".

notsosmart

I wish the Rays sold a "visor". It gets too hot in the summer to wear a baseball cap, but a Rays "visor" would do just fine on many days! My lady would love one right now!

Dana

I also think it is time for the team to change the away jerseys to say Tampa Bay. Maybe that way people will stop referring to us as the "Tampa Rays".

Joe

Showcase the sunburst all you want, but please for the love of all the great fans in this market, CHANGE THE ROAD UNIFORMS PLEASE!! There are too many complaints from too many people. Do anything else (by doing nothing) and you are making a mistake. Civic pride and ego means a lot to me, especially when the club is constantly referred to as "Tampa". Its a regional team and reinforcing the identity on the road uniform is ONLY LOGICAL!

Nick

I agree, we need to get a "Tampa Bay" or "TB" jersey. Is this sun thing going to take over? Hope not. We're not the "rays" of sunshine, are we? Seems a little "San Francisco like" or not as tough.

Joe

Mr. Fernandez and Mr. Silverman, what about the constant complaint about the absence of "Tampa Bay" on the road uniforms? Its about time this gets addressed and put to bed once and for all. When is someone going to put this on the record and say that FOR SURE the uniforms will change for 2010? Will you commit to this Mr. Fernandez or Mr. Silverman?

McLovin

Maybe I need to get used to it like having to adjust to the brand new look last year, but I'm just not really into these new ones.

There's not really a change except color, and no one would notice the sunburst being larger unless they were told.

Of course, it's way better than trying to pass off those batting practice jerseys as alternates...

Adam

Nice jersey if you are a fan of plain block letters on a shirt.

Jimbo

Let's reinforce we've exorcised the "Devil" first before we try to correct people where the team is actually representing, mm.

Personally, I'm still not a big fan of the new colors (the green, black, and white was awesome!), but I seem to be in a quickly-shrinking minority every day. Whatever helps them win more games!

GO RAYS!

Caleb

Much better then the white.

mm

Still no "Tampa Bay" road jersey though. Bummer.

Fogelberg

I went to raysbaseball.com and the new jersey is not there.

Amanda

Looks awesome. A lot like the Lightning 3rd jersey, which I also love.
