Rays add Jorge Julio to Triple-A, dump Orvella
The Rays added to the depth of their relief corp at Triple-A Durham - and potentially eventually at the big-league level - by signing 9-year veteran RHP Jorge Julio, who has 99 career saves, a 17-34 record and a 4.43 ERA in 453 relief appearances.
Julio, 30, began the season with Milwaukee and was 1-1, 7.79 in 15 appearances before being released last week. He had a one-year, $950,000 contract.
To make room on the Durham roster, they released RHP CHad Orvella, a former big-leaguer who was 0-1, 6.12 in 19 appearances.

Here's what the Milwaukee press said upon his release:
One day after reliever Jorge Julio faced six batters and allowed five runs off two hits, two hit batters, a walk and an error, the Brewers released the right-hander who never quite caught on in a mop-up role.
AWESOME!

Hello AL REYES
Yeah are you doing anything for the rest of the baseball season? If not stop by the Trop for a workout.
Thanks
Rays Management

They get a guy that's got a 7.79 ERA and give up one with a 6.1?
That a way Rays!

Once more, all the chatter has been how this team leads the league in scoring runs yadayada and we lose 2 games in NY by not scoring runs and same thing tonight. Just dug into some stats to see how we are doing in comparison to other teams in both individual and team strikeouts:
Tampa 457 strikeouts
Boston 392
Toronto 351
N.Y. 343
Balt 327
Individuals:
Pena 77
Upton 64
Ortiz 55
Longo 54
Swisher 51
Bay 50
Lind 46
Jones 43
So, we not only lead the league in K's, we also have 3 of the top 8 in individual K's. You can't win championships with stats like this and shaky starting pitching, poor bullpen and no closers. 4th place, at best !!

If this is the same Julio that was with the Mets, what a disaster he would be--then again, he has to be better than Orvella..Might as well call up Casey Fossum and see if he needs a job, or Rudy Lugo or Brian Stokes..What a waste of money.

Julio? Almost 8 run ERA? For $600,000? Brilliant. Just brilliant. What next? Seth McClung for a million? How about Dewon Brazelton for $2 million?
This is living proof that even the management believes we have no bullpen.
I just want to know, who Julio is going to beat out?
