Evan Longoria back in Tampa Bay Rays' lineup vs Toronto Blue Jays | Main | Midday sports report »

July 01, 2009

Toronto Blue Jays 5, Tampa Bay Rays 0

Adam Lind, Scott Rolen and Rod Barajas homer off James Shields, and Ricky Romero limits the Tampa Bay Rays to four hits over eight innings as the Toronto Blue Jays end the Rays' seven-game winning streak.

Trailing by two, the Rays load the bases with one out in the seventh inning. But Pat Burrell grounds into a double play to end Tampa Bay's biggest threat. Toronto hits three home runs over the next two innings to pull away.

Maddon has been managing great as of late, even though Burrell has struggled, you got to believe he is due to break out. Can't have all your bench players starting, as much as we love Aybar, the depth is critical to the late innings. Burrell turns it around like Kaplar, then this team will be incredible. Still have Joyce to bring up later for September too for even more offense. Someone please find a way to get Navarro out of the lineup...

I sensed from some of the quotes in the times this morning that Shields was a bit po'd.

Burrell. What else can you say?

Kapler's Millions

2 out of 3 on the road ain't bad. Burrell is making me very nervous though.

Support is necessary, but 3 home runs is a problem...Shields
Away games still a problem for Shields
....no matter what he says..
Morons on the bases a problem..
Burrells a big problem...
Errors and stupid mistakes a problem..
Besides that.... everythings good!!

Knew it was going to be a bad day with all the mistakes made by the Rays today. And it all started with BJ being picked off of 1st base.

And when's Burrell going to start earning that $8 mill?

If I was Shieldsy, I'd be a little po'd about the lack of support he's getting from his teammates.
