INF Joe Dillon accepts Triple-A assignment, several draft picks close to deals with Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays were able to keep INF Joe Dillon in the organization as he accepted an assignment to Triple-A Durham after clearing waivers.
Dillon was designated for assignment on Saturday when the Rays acquired RHP Russ Springer from Oakland.
Also, the Rays are closing in on deals with several of their top draft picks: No. 3 OF Todd Glaesmann, No. 4 C Luke Bailey, No. 5 1B Jeff Malm and No. 9 LHP Kevin James, of Whitefish Bay (Wi.) HS. No. 1 pick INF LeVon Washington and No. 2. SS Kenny Diekroeger have not signed.

Washington may have been an over draft, but Diekroeger may end up being outstanding, either as a middle infielder, or in the OF.

I'd be happy with signing the picks they are close to deals with in Bailey, Malm and Glaesmann. Washington and Diekroeger probably want too much money and we can get compensation for not signing them, so let them go and push hard for Austin Maddox, late round pick that was top 5 round material. They need to sign 3 of the top 5 though, otherwise, they wasted a draft class.

Well we took a 2-3 rounder in the first round for what im sure was signability purposes and according to this article were not close to signing him.

We really need to sign AT LEAST 4 of their top 5 picks. For a team that's considered 'small market' signing draft picks is vital.

Jeff Malm...a hitter in the mold of a young Travis Haffner, but better defensively.
