Tampa Bay Rays decision on option for LF Carl Crawford, and others, could come soon

While the Tampa Bay Rays have already made some moves to shore up their 2010 roster (like re-signing RF Gabe Kapler), they have more decisions - which could come as early as today - on their other options.

One is picking up the $10 million option for All-Star LF Carl Crawford, the longest tenured Ray. That move appears likely at some point, but an even bigger question is whether Crawford and the Rays can come to an agreement on an extension during the offseason (something Crawford has said he'd be open to).

The other options the Rays have to make a decision on are with LHP specialist Brian Shouse ($2 million), and backup C Gregg Zaun ($2 million). LHP Randy Choate emerged with a solid season in the bullpen, and could provide as another option if Shouse isn't brought back.

And Zaun, a veteran catcher who resides in Palm Harbor, said late in the season he'd love to return to the Rays, and would be open to discussing other ways to bring him back (even if his option isn't picked up).
