Trashy and shocking
The TRA'shion Fashion Show on Saturday (7/19) at ARTpool is going to be one of the coolest events in St. Pete this summer, hands down. The concept alone is cool: making funky clothes out of recyclable goods. They put the offer out to both fashion designers and artists so I'm guessing some of the creations will be wonderfully wild. I am interested to see how ARTpool is going to set up a runway in its smallish space, though.
After the models finish strutting down the catwalk, I'm going to head over to the Garage to see one of its more specialized events, Shocked! It is supposed to combine some hardcore industrial music with burlesque acts that are both fun and sexy to watch. If you're easily offended or you've led a sheltered life, this may not be for you. If you can keep an open mind though, it should be a wild time worth checking out.
If you must get out to Ybor on Saturday night, check out Heroes and Villains night at the Castle (in honor of The Dark Knight, of course). Considering there's a guy who goes there weekly dressed as Batman anyway, there should be a good turnout of costumed folks. Hopefully, the Joker will challenge Batman to an extreme dance-off. If any of you get pictures, send them to me.
The TRA'shion Fashion Show at ARTpool, 919 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg, begins at 8 p.m. and costs $10. The runway show starts at 9 but get there early to get a good spot.
Shocked! at the Garage, 662 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, begins at 8 p.m. and costs $5. But leave Grandma at home -- unless Grandma likes crazy industrial burlesque. In that case, get her to buy the first round.
The Heroes and Villains party at the Castle, 2204 N 16th Street, Tampa, starts at 10:30 p.m. and will cost $5 to get in. C'mon, you gotta dress up. That's half the fun!

Leigh Armstrong is a connoisseur of anything new, cool or strange. After a stint in Korea drinking soju and eating live octopi, Leigh is back in Tampa Bay and ready to experience everything from ultra-hip to the uber-weird.
Don't forget about this... it's fun and free!
and
VEGAN BRUNCH AND BIKE RIDE on Sunday.
We meet Sunday at 12:30pm at Northshore Park in St Pete, and ride our bikes to Brunch at 140 Richardo Way on Snell Island.
Sorry, I'm shamelessly self promoting... but you know... I gotta try.
