Another day. Another report card. Sort of.
The Alliance for Excellent Education has updated its snapshot of high school performance in Florida, and the picture still doesn't look good. The Washington, D.C.-based policy and advocacy group (whose board of directors includes Steven Raymund, chairman and CEO of TechData in Clearwater) doesn't offer grades. But it does mine interesting nuggets of data from other sources on things like teacher pay, teacher retention, test scores and grad rates. One example: The Urban Institute's analysis of grad rates in urban districts, including the 10 biggest in Florida. By that measure, Pinellas is the worst of the big in Florida, with a 45.5 percent grad rate overall, and a rock-bottom 28.6 percent rate for black students.
