SQUEEZED OUT: New admission standards for Florida's universities could deny up to 60,000 potential students - many minorities - access to the system.

MOVE ALONG: Hillsborough's school capacity advisory committee recommends few changes in the proposed boundary changes for new elementary and middle schools scheduled to open in the fall.

NO COMPLAINTS: Plans to redraw attendance zones in Pasco aren't making waves in the community.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: A circuit judge and local lawyer ask some Hernando High students which parts of the Bill of Rights they would preserve if they could keep just five.

LEAVE THE TECH AT HOME: Palm Beach schools announce they'll throw out a student's FCAT answer sheet if the student has an MP3 player or cell phone in their possession during the exam, the Palm Beach Post reports.

JUST CALL IT A THEORY: Panhandle state Rep. Marti Coley urges the State Board of Education to call evolution a "theory" in the state's science standards, suggesting that will appease the folks fighting the proposal to call evolution a key idea, the AP reports.

LAST CHANCE: Broward officials tell an F-rated Lauderdale Lakes charter school that they'll shut it down if student achievement doesn't improve on this year's FCAT, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

CLASS-SIZE PENALTIES: Fourteen Florida school districts face financial penalties up to $100,000 for failing to meet the class-size amendment, the AP reports.

GAMING THE SYSTEM: Students lose as Florida schools begin teaching to FCAT at the expense of everything else, the Palm Beach Post editorializes.

MAKE THEM PAY: The Bay County school system asks its county commission to increase traffic ticket fines by $5 and give the revenue to the district for driver education programs, the Panama City News Herald reports.

EXPANDING VOUCHERS, CUTTING OTHER THINGS:
President Bush's education budget would add $300-million for voucher programs, trimming back "ineffective" initiatives to pay for it, the Washington Post reports.
