Hillsborough, Pasco win innovation awards
The American School Board Journal has recognized programs in the Hillsborough and Pasco school districts that take "bold and innovative steps" to improve their educational offerings. The 14th annual Magna Awards will be presented officially on March 31 in Orlando.
The programs that received first place awards are:
- Hillsborough's There Ought to Be a Law contest, in which students learn about the legislative process by drafting their own bills. The winner goes before the Florida Legislature.
- Pasco's Resource Recovery/Recycling Program, in which students learn about how to reduce waste and reuse products.
The organization awarded three grand prizes, 15 first place honors and 15 honorable mentions. More than 250 districts from 40 states applied for the recognition. For more on the awards, including a full list of winners, click here (Hillsborough version of the press release) or here (Pasco version).
