Hafner to lead Manatee Community College

Hafnerlars For more than a decade, Lars Hafner represented St. Petersburg as a Democrat in the Florida House. Then he turned his attention to higher education administration.

Most recently, Hafner has served as provost of St. Pete College for two years, helping to oversee the school's addition of four-year degrees and to create a continuing education program for area workers.

His experiences apparently have served him well, as Hafner on Thursday became trustees' unanimous choice to succeed outgoing Manatee Community College president Sarah Pappas.

"We've gotten a lot of good feedback about him," Pappas told the Herald-Tribune, suggesting he is capable of taking over where she leaves off.

Part of his allure was his time as a lawmaker, trustee and former US Rep. Dan Miller told the Bradenton Herald. Other trustees said they liked the way the public reacted favorably to him during meet and greets.

Hafner told the Bradenton Herald he welcomes the new opportunity: "Dr. Pappas has done tremendous work in leading MCC to the level it is at, and I look forward to coming in and continuing her good work."

Could not happen to a better Administrator. Good luck! Dr. Hafner.
