The Legislature has passed a bill that aims to make textbooks more affordable for college students, and now it goes to the governor for his signature.
The Textbook Affordability Act, by Rep. Anitere Flores (R-Miami) and Sen. Jeff Atwater (R-Palm Beach), requires professors to determine whether new book editions are necessary. It also requires Florida colleges and universities to provide students with info about required textbooks at least 30 days before the semester starts so that they have time to bargain shop.
“This is an opportunity for the legislature to provide relief to our college students, and let them know that we are listening and are committed to helping them,” Atwater said.
A study by the Government Accountability Office found that between December 1986 and December 2004, textbook prices nationwide rose at twice the rate of inflation.

Hey, I have an idea - why doesn't the Legislature NOT GIVE CSX $700 million dollars and NOT GIVE RUBIO'S FRIEND $265 million dollars and RAISE CIGARETTE TAXES by a $1.00 a pack?
Humm, that won't work - the lobbyists would be upset and Pruitt, Posey, Webster, and Rubio wouldn't like that.
