They're still locked in a legal battle over who should set tuition, but they apparently agree on how much tuition should be.
Just days after lawmakers approved a $66-billion budget that includes a 6 percent tuition hike for Florida undergraduates, the Board of Governors just voted for the same. They earlier this year talked about raising it by 8 percent, but backed down. And this time, the governor says he'll approve the increase.
Thirty percent of the revenues will go to need-based aid. Meanwhile, there's a hearing in Tallahassee May 13, when the judge is expected to rule on whether the BOG even has the legal standing to sue the Legislature over tuition authority.
The 6 percent increase raises per-credit tuition by less than $5 to $82.03, or $2,460.90 a year for a student taking 30 credits.

The multi-million dollar budget cuts in the SUS were not caused by low tuition. They were caused by declining tax revenues. The poorest Floridians shouldn't be forced to pay more to access their own public universities simply because lawmakers refused to plug revenue losses.

As a current college student, I am all for the tuition being raised. With the budget cuts, the quality of education has definitely diminished and higher tuition payments will give schools the opportunity to get back up to par.
Our in state tuition is extremely low compared to the other 49 states in our country and a raise in tuition is necessary.

Raise out-of-state tuition high enough to keep them out. Students from the north can go to school down here, have a car, and live off campus cheaper than at home. Make room for students from Florida. Also, raise the requirements for entry.

College will be only for the rich. It's almost not worth going for all the years of student loans that will need to be paid back with interest. U.S. is creating a country of idiots.

FL ranks almost last in tuition. as a staff member of a college, there are severe budget cuts because the price of tuition, plus the amount of students doesn't mesh. Either less students must be accepted, or tuition increased to support the infrastructure to serve them.
You cant have thousands of students with a skeleton crew. its like the class size amendment. We want smaller class sizes, but we need to hire more teachers and build more schools which cost money.

Fla already has enough dumb a-- running around the state. So let's make it so expensive to go to school so we can have even more running around!
