Grim UF budget cuts to be announced
UF president Bernie Machen this afternoon will announce his plans for dealing with a roughly $70-million drop in annual state operating dollars, including a $47-million loss from the budget that lawmakers crafted during the legislative session that ended Friday.
UF already trimmed its budget by $22-million earlier this year, when lawmakers made emergency decisions to cut the state budget because of falling revenues.
Machen has warned that layoffs and program cuts might be inevitable. We'll find out soon just how inevitable...
