USF says thumbs down to movie theater classes
Hold the popcorn! The Oracle, USF's student paper, reports that administrators are ending the seven-years-long tradition of holding classes in the nearby University Mall.
Officials told the Oracle that they now have space for students on campus, and that some of the roughly 2,500 students attending classes in the theater didn't like the cinematic academic experience much anyway.
Not only were the classes huge, but students had to pay a $7.50 fee to take the classes there, helping offset what the university paid in shuttle transportation and mall space leasing costs.
Now maybe students can use the money to cover the rising gas costs just to get to the main campus...

It's about time. I don't remember the specifics, but somehow when they started to have classes at the mall, they blamed the whole thing on the terror attacks of 9/11. So bagan the era of what John Stewart calls "9/11 tourettes". 9/11.

Not true. "Hall in the Mall" started some time ago when there wasn't adequate room for some of the lecture classes on campus. The CoEdu was one of the users of the mall.
I for one enjoyed the "Hall in the Mall", specifically the class with Dr. Hall. The seats were comfy and you spread out, not to mention you didn't have to do the "parking dance" to get a space before class, since there's such a severe lack of parking on campus. The only negative I can think of was having to use the "boards" they had for a desk. A minor inconvenience.
Sorry to see them go - I'm sure Dr. Hall is, too.
