Obama's sister to visit

Maya_2 Sen. Barack Obama's sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, will be in Pinellas County tomorrow morning. She's stopping by the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association headquarters at 10 a.m., part of a swing through the Tampa Bay area that includes a "Women for Obama" reception in Tampa tonight.

A press release from the Obama '08 campaign says Soetoro-Ng is meeting with local educators to "discuss Barack Obama's plan to bring our country together to reclaim the American Dream and strengthen our schools."

Soetoro-Ng is a teacher at La Pietra, a private all-girls high school in Honolulu. She also lectures at the University of Hawaii's College of Education on multi-cultural education and the history of education.

The Pinellas event is not open to the public.

How funny!

The Teachers Union has worked endlessly AGAINST allowing working class and poor families the right to send their children to a private school using almost the same dollars that would be spent on the same child in the public school. They feel only parents wiht the money to afford that kind of education should have that right.

Now the sister of the man that wants my vote is kissing up to that same union while she teachs at an exclusive private school! Wonder what she thinks about vouchers?!

Sorry, that kind of education and opportunity is for the wealthy that can afford it. The poor and working class are stuck in the substandard schools while the government experiments and tries to fix this problem.

Sorry, but my chld can't wait for you to fix it- I want to right to send my daughter to the the same type of school you teacher at in Hiawii- a private all girls school that has high expectations, and delivers high results.

You have the right to send your kids to private school -- just not with my money. I am a public school teacher and send my kids to private school (for religious reasons). My wife and I sacrifice and cut corners in order to pay for it. It is worth it to us. However, I am against vouchers because I believe public education is critical for a learned democracy and vouchers would hurt that system. I would personally benefit from vouchers, but at what greater cost?
