A scant three weeks into the fall semester, USF officials are saying they've never seen a building sustain as much wear and tear in so short a time as their new $65-million Marshall Student Center.
While most of the damage is unintentional, the USF Oracle reports, building staff members have found gum stuck to the backs of chairs and pencil marks on the walls.
John Curran, vice president of Gould Evans Architecture and head architect of the Marshall Student Center project, said some of the walls may be repainted with a type of fiber-reinforced laminate used in counter tops.
Marshall Student Center director Joe Synovec said he simply would like the students to treat the building with the same respect they would show their own houses.

USF is a PERFECTLY GOOD university. I'm sure you will find plenty of gum, pencil marks around the halls of UF and FSU too. The problem is that alot of today's youth has little respect for much of anything. They were allowed to get away with it in HS, so why not college? their nasty habits will eventually catch up with them. Note too, that the article says "most of the damage is unintentional."

"A perfect display of how ignorant the public at large has become. These are the same types of people that rationalize invading a third world middle eastern country for it's resources will make the world a safer place."
Rust Bunt must have copied this from a desk. It sounds like college graffiti trying to be relevant.

Have they no respect for property?

One would think that by the time they enter college, the scribbling on the walls and sticking gum wherever would have stopped.

Right Hunter. I am guessing that is where you went right? It shows how great they are considering you don't even capitalize your first and last name. See even good schools allow idiots through the door.

This just shows the class of people we send out to the professional field. Your not in High School anymore grow up and be an adult. Show respect and take pride in your school. I always wondered how such immature people pass through that school. Every day I would wonder this as I would erase stuff written on the desk or just shake my head and the litter everywhere considering there is far from a shortage of trash cans. GROW UP!

I just graduated, so I missed the new building, but this is outrageous. We finally have something nice, and people treat it like its Cooper Hall.
