Bad Omen

Please do not misuse words by titling yourself truth. NCLB does enough of the feel good words without corresponding meaning. Read Derek Neal's Proficiency Counts:Left Behind by Design and post when you know what you are defending.

Expose NCLB? NCLB, though definitely not a perfect accountability system, has exposed inequity in our nation's schools and has required states to address these inequities. It's time to step up and provide every child with a high quality public education, not just the few.

The last person I would trust with my children's education, or any child who is not a level 2 scorer, would be Ms. Haycock. Read Derek Neal's Proficiency Counts: Left Behind by Design on your computer to learn why NCLB is not as many imagine. A second option would be to google High Achievers in an Era of No Child Left Behind. Remember one way to close an achievement gap is to lower the ceiling of achievement. Try to have your child skip a grade or even just skip a grade in a subject. You may want to rename NCLB as Every Child Held Behind or my favorite name, No Child is Different.
Interestingly, Ms. Haycock noted the well researched finding that low income children begin school behind their more affluent peers. So how is that the school's fault? What is fair about punishing a school because it serves a large number of low income students? Why isn't she screaming for value added methodology which makes growth from any point valuable, therefore reducing the impact of a disadvantaged starting point? Could it be that NCLB has much more to do with funneling money out of the public schools? How does she think everyone will be proficient by 2014? Is she the magic fairy? How can she speak of high standards when increasing proficiency rates means a race to lower standards?
Why no hard questions? An opportunity to expose NCLB has been missed.
