To think, he could have been Pinellas superintendent

Guess what surfaced just days before the Miami-Dade School Board is scheduled to vote on Alberto Carvalho's proposed contract to lead Florida's largest school district?
If you said "more incriminating e-mails," you were right.
The Miami Herald reports today that a new batch of communication between the one-time choice to run the Pinellas district and former Herald reporter Tania deLuzuriaga have anonymously arrived at the paper's computers. And these seem to undermine Carvalho's strong denials of a romantic relationship with the woman who once reported about him (and the rest of the district, too).
Not surprisingly, Carvalho claims someone is trying to tank him. The thing is, it just might be working as board members who previously supported his narrowly approved appointment say they don't like being deceived.
"The question here is how he reacted. That's an issue of character. That's the issue that a lot of us are weighing,'' board Chairman Agustín Barrera told the Herald. "If he did something wrong, he should have owned up to it.''
When all this first started, Carvalho did say, "Ultimately, the truth will come out." Maybe this is it.

Makes you wonder if what you read in the newspaper is really true or if there are other factors at play!

If the alleged affair is unethical enough to make a journalist lose their job, please tell me an educator has to be held to the same standard.
If they hire this guy to run an organization with a workforce comprised of 80+% women, their collective judgement is severley flawed.
Womanizing has to hurt morale in such a system.

Sure shows our board isn't much to talk about. They loved his charm.

Kim,
are you sure Mr. Carvahlo wasn't doing any of the Pinellas board members in "after hours" interviews?
He has a huge womanizing reputation down in Miami-Dade.
Maybe that's what convinced them!
And to think you could have had Don Juan Casanova as your new Supt!
He sure would have been an improvement over the previous stodgy, typical fat, white, boring old fuddy duddy types.
He could have added a lot of spice to Pinellas school politics!

Just think, I supported this guy whole heartedly after his presentation.
On the other hand, the Dade County School Board is getting what they surely deserved after dumping the previous School Chief for no other reason than he did not allow them to meddle in school business.

It would appear that newspapers hold their employes to a higher standard than school districts. That's pathetic.

Gilbert,
big correction.
the previous school supt (Dr. Rudy Crew), ran two consecutive years of budget deficits ($66 and $44 million).
That's a big no no in Florida education and it's called fiscal malfeasance.
Crew also was extremely arrogant and thought he reported to no one.
The last straw was stealing the teacher's already contractually negotitated raises.
They ran him out of town on a rail (and a $400K golden parachute to boot)!

Thanks for the correction Terminator. I did NOT have all of this information.

Gilbert:
termie's always here to be of assistance.
I thrive on this stuff!
some say I need to get a life!
Posted by: terminator | October 07, 2008 at 01:01 PM
Yes, it seems that termie is always here during regular working hours.
Crew is the reason that this new scandal is out there. Follow the money . . .
Can termie please name just one sitting superintendent who is both well intentioned and well qualified to serve? If he could, it might raise his credibility from 0% to at least 2%-3%. Right now, he would have you believe that every single school administrator in the state is only there to support bureaucracy and bloat. Of course, he used to be an administrator, and if there had been blogs at that time, he would have spent all of his time posting all day. So, clearly at least at one time, there was one really lazy school administrator out there.

So if Bill Clinton was "Slick Willie," what would Carvahlo's nickname be?
Hey, at least she's better looking than Monica!

I wonder what Jane Galucci and Nancy Bostock are thinking about their "Top" choice now!
Posted by: Linda | October 07, 2008 at 08:49 PM
Got to say that I am not impressed by the present discussion. Seems to me that we ought to focus our attention on current and future developments in PCS under the leadership of Dr. Janssen.

Frans, Just remember Bostock was a big supporter of Cavalier. When you vote for county commission in Nov. pick someone with better judgement.

well you never know
a man's gotta do what he's gotta do to get the job even if it means providing stud service to a bunch of old bitties!

Wilcox supported Calvarho along with all of the Pinellas School Board members that he always had in his pocket. What does that tell you? Maybe good riddance for both? And, good riddance when the board members are gone.
Posted by: Mary | October 08, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Keep in mind, the entire school board was not for Carvalho. Jane Gallucci and Nancy Bostock were the biggest supporters. Mary Brown, Linda Lerner and Peggy O'Shea saw him for what he really was. Do you think Jane and Nancy were trying to "stick" it to the District before leaving?
