The Pinellas School Board quickly chose its new leaders in a short meeting this morning at district headquarters. Peggy O'Shea (left) will be the board's new chairwoman and Janet Clark will be the new vice chair. They will serve in those posts until this time next year.
Clark and veteran board member Carol Cook were sworn in after winning re-election. New board members Nina Hayden and Robin Wikle also were sworn in during a brief ceremony attended by family members and a handful of district administrators.
The newly constituted board will jump right into the deep end of the pool at a workshop this morning. The agenda includes a briefing on the district's worsening budget crisis and the related matters of closing schools and bargaining with employees who have not received raises this year.
