Gov. Charlie Crist just signed off on the budget cuts made during the special session, but vetoed some of them, including $13 million to the bonus program for national board certified teachers.
“The most important ingredient in a world class education is our teachers, and high performing teachers deserve financial recognition for their hard work,” he wrote in this letter to Secretary of State Kurt Browning.
Crist also vetoed $15 million in cuts to adult education and workforce development; $411,000 to autism programs; and $821,000 to the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.

there are a handful down in where else (South Florida).
most are non-union principal lackies with brown stuff dripping off their noses.
for their complicity in ratting out teachers to the administration they are rewarded with extra supplements, summer school, etc.
kind of like Jews who worked for the Nazis.
termie 2:
glad to have you on board. I am an educator but have been a union lobbyist for some time but still deal with school districts and all of their shenanigans.
while true they do pay those wages in NY the cost of living there is astronomical.
I assure you I am not enjoying life at the beach I and some others are attempting to destroy the beast that has strangled Florida public education for decades.
thanks to the recession and budget cuts we are making some headway.
the teachers in each district need to push forward outing wayward school board members/corrupt district administrators.
people are fed up. it's time for a paradigm shift.
the head of the snake must be severed!

Terminator, you sound like a smart man! Any chance you are an educator? And, in response to 6:56, try looking at teacher salaries in Suffolk County, New York. Terminator, please enjoy life at the beach; even if the ship is quickly sinking!

Gosh, if only those rewarded teachers would teach in the schools where they are needed, and if those teachers are in those schools, they teach to the students (not the Honors) that really need help.
MAP is a joke.

You are right 5:48. Terminator - If there is a single teacher making $100,000.00 please tell me where - in the country even! I will move!

It was not MAP cuts that he vetoed, I don't believe. It was the bonus that goes to NBCTs. They should get it.

MAP is a total waste.
The vast majority of districts/union locals did not participate in MAP last year due to all the uncertainty surrounding it (changing standards).
Crist is so full of sh**. He always likes to tout teachers in Florida will be making $100K per year and how his sisters were both teachers.
Bottom line is, there are very few teachers in Florida making that salary and it sure is heck isn't because of MAP.
If he really wanted to do something positive, he'd get rid of MAP and spend the money on a direct supplement from the state to the individual teachers in each district (bypassing the local districts who would only seek to scr++ the teachers/unions with their false claims of financial urgency).
Chuck Crist is a dipstick and doesn't have a clue. He definately will never be remembered as the education governor!
