House education policy chairman John Legg has a message for anyone coming before his committee this spring: Anyone seeking to alter education rules must include a money source if the change will cost anything.
"I can't let something come out of my committee that we can't pay for," Legg told a gathering of Pasco educators Monday. "Any bill that is requiring districts to spend more money but doesn't include flexibility ... is DOA."
That does not mean, though, that the Legislature won't be considering policy issues, he quickly added. Among the big items on the table, Legg said, are:
- Making Florida's A-Plus plan jibe with national accountability rules.
- Increasing the state's academic standards.
- Continuing the move toward end-of-course exams.
- "Fixing" laws governing Bright Futures, school recognition fund spending and mandatory P.E. courses.
- Finding an affordable solution to implementing the class size amendment.
One thing Legg said he wants to avoid is "debate for the sake of debating." With bills coming through drafting on issues as hot as getting rid of teacher tenure, though, that might be hard to do.

Deuetch and Kiar are both liberal Democrats from the most liberal county in Florida (George Lemiux called it God's country) but I can assure you it is far from that.
Problem with the Dems is their solution is to keep throwing the corrupt school districts/boards more money which they will then proceed to spend on more administrative bureaucracy and more waste.
These districts need more money like Rosie O'Donnell needs another sandwich.
The reason why I favor the R's is because they are calling the districts on the carpet and cutting their budgets which will force them to get rid of the fat.
Notice how they are currently squirming like cockroaches on a hot tin stove!
Don't buy into their gloom and doom scenarios. We need to cut off the head of the snake, ensure money is redirected towards the classroom.
Contact your Congressperson and tell them to make all federal stimulus money categorical so the school districts can't shift the money to operational and spend it on more six figure jobs for do nothing administrators downtown.

thank you 528 poster!!!! after a long day i needed a good laugh. I often agree with terminator. signing with a proper name would have zero influence over my opinions of him/her. i am still laughing out loud that someone would chastise another for not posting 'with your name'....then NOT using a name either! thanks again for the laugh.

I don't know Terminator. Both Kiar and Deutch lead the Democrats in Education. Kiar in the House and Deutch in the Senate. By the way Terminator, what do you have against the Democrats anyway. Every time you post you bash the Dems and praise the Republicans. Also, you may be more effective if you actually posted with your name.

you can't be serious dude?
put down the crystal meth and drop the grape flavored kool-aid!
you must be their mother or something.
Deutch and Kiar don't have enough juice in the legislature between the two of them to fight their way out of a paper bag.

I am just happy that Ted Deutch is fighting to protect education in the State Senate and Marty Kiar is fighting to protect education in the House. Those guys rock.

"Finding an affordable solution to implementing the class size amendment."-Just fund it!!! Stop talking about ways of trying to get around the constitution.
Stop taking it out of the pockets of education employees. You have the money, use it for students, instead of palm trees and median projects.

"getting rid of teacher tenure"
What was it that Chuck Heston said: "when they pry the steel blue barrell from our cold dead fingers"!
Get serious wingnuts, it ain't never gonna happen.
You guys better be more concerned about what Obama, Pelosi and Reid are going to do to your "right to work" laws in Congress.
