2009 Florida State football countdown: Miami
The 2009 Florida State Seminoles football season starts two months from today, so we'll kick off a daily look at this year's opponents over the next 12 days. First up, Miami.
Sept. 7: Florida State vs.Miami, 8 p.m.
2008 records: FSU 9-4; Miami 7-6
Last meeting: Antone Smith rushed for a career-best four touchdowns, including a game-clinching 20-yarder with 3:57 remaining, in a 41-39 FSU victory on Oct. 4. Florida State wasted most of an early 24-point lead before hanging on.
Hurricanes outlook: Miami has six starters back on both offense and defense plus a returning punter and kicker and a coach firmly on the hot seat. Sophomore Jacory Harris has a firm grip on the quarterback job now that Robert Marve has transferred, but the Hurricanes have had trouble putting together a consistent offense. Mark Whipple is the team's fifth offensive coordinator in five years. For coach Randy Shannon to keep his job, Miami will probably need to pull some surprises.
