Florida State senior safety Jamie Robinson: Seminoles are "motivated'' to send Mickey Andrews out on a positive note

Florida State senior safety Jamie Robinson said everyone has been assuming that defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews would retire at the end of the season, a season that hasn't turned out like anyone would have liked.

The Seminoles are 109th in Division I-A in total defense, allowing an average of 428.88 yards; twice the defense has allowed more than 500 yards, including a season-high of 538 last week against North Carolina State. It's also allowing an average of 29.75 points, 93rd in the nation.

"It has been stressful on him some, all of us, just not meeting your expectations,'' Robinson said. "He’s holding up pretty good.''

He said the hard-driving Andrews hasn't changed this season and is working and pushing himself and his players as hard as ever. Showing improvement to honor their coach is motivation, especially for the seniors, Robinson said.

"We do want to kind of send him out on top or just send him out on a good note so everything won't be sour,'' he said. "So that is motivation for us (for) what he means to us and just how much we have learned from him. It’s kind of like wanting to do something for him.''

No one has questioned the motivation.

FSU has played with heart in every game. But, missed assignments, loss of leverage, the failure to contain and not making the play (not wrapping up) when in-position has become the hallmark of this year's D.

It clear that the talent level is down from the past, but getting your fellow defensive mates to focus better in practice will give Coach Andrews less heartburn on Saturdays.
