Florida State's Christian Ponder up for the Wuerffel Award
Can a Florida State Seminole actually win an award named after one of the all-time best Florida Gators?
Well, this year that can happen. FSU quarterback is among the nominees for the Wuerffel Award, named for former Gator quarterback Danny Wuerffel, who of course won the 1996 Heisman Trophy and then led his team to its first national title by beating FSU in a rematch of the team's regular-season showdown. The Wuerffel Award goes to the Division I-A player based on his work off the field in the community, in the class room and on the field. Here's the release with all the nominees.
Finalists will announced on Nov. 11 and the winner on Dec. 8.

Start your tomahawk chop and give us your war cry. The Seminole report is written by FSU beatwriter Brian Landman and the sports staff of the St. Petersburg Times.
For starters they backdoored the NC in 1996, if ponders wins will he be a bust in the NFL too???

Yeah, hanging 50-plus on the Seminoles in the Sugar Bowl game is the kind of back-door entrance that is second to none. Get ready to have another 50 hung on your pitiful team come nov. 28. As for success in the NFL, the only Seminole QB ever to have any was second team at FSU because the coaches were too stupid to start him. You want back door to a title? Try 1993 when two teams finished with one loss but the winner in the head to head didn't get the title because the voters felt sorry for the old man. That was also the Free Shoes University team of Sports Illustrated's infamous "Tainted Title'' cover. Please.

And Florida quarterbacks have had success in the NFL? Here's a list of their busts:
Spurrier...now an angry old coach
Reeves...now an alcoholic
Matthews...still needs anger management
Wuerful...now in a monastery
Grossman...hanging on as a backup

Dick, smoking too much weed, moron. The object is to win college games, not produce players for the NFL. How many first-round picks FSU have lately? About the same as Top 10 finishes. (Zero, since you can't count). Nice season the Semi-holes have going. How's that coaching transition thing working out? Nice. By the way, Ponder won't have to worry about working on any acceptance speeches for post-season awards anymore. A decade of excellence. Live in it pal.

Not too much success in the NFL for Gator QBs.... excuse me. I'll rephrase - NO SUCCESS.
