New Storm assistant has familiar name, doesn’t he?
Pardon me for not mentioning this when it happened ... but last week, the Storm hired veteran Pete Kuharchek to coach the defensive line. It's a move head coach Tim Marcum thinks is a great one. "We needed some help at defensive line," Marcum said. "He's an experienced coach and has been lots and lots of places."
No kidding.
Kuharchek played at the University of Tampa, and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant in 1969. He once coached at Tampa Catholic. He had stints at Holy Cross, East Tennessee State, Louisiana Tech and Memphis. He coached in the USFL here in Tampa under Steve Spurrier. He worked in the CFL. He was head coach of the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe. And in 2006, he was the Storm's quality control coach.
"I enjoy coaching with Tim," Kuharchek said. "I've known him for quite awhile. I'm glad to be here. I've got some good guys to coach."
