She's fallen in love with the Rays

Tb_celeste Today, It's Your Times  -- the St. Petersburg Times' community journalism site -- published a sweet letter from new Rays fan Celeste Spoon of Brooksville.

Spoon had surgery for a torn Achilles tendon and has been in a cast ever since April. She joined her husband to watch the Rays one night and has been hooked ever since. "That night I fell in love with the Rays, and I want them to know they've made my injury bearable," Spoon wrote.

She later explained to me on the phone that her husband has cancer and the Rays' winning ways "have saved my sanity."

She says she's looking forward to walking again so that she can attend a game.

Bless her heart! With the high number of games, radio and TV coverage and a generally slow pace, baseball is a great sport for the infirmed and those with limited income. Another reason why spending $450+ million to replace a perfectly good stadium makes no economic sense at all.

You're a jerk Karl

So nice to receive this article all the way in Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada. We are Canadian snowbirds, and I am a client at the Fitness Center that Celeste's daughter owns and operates in Brooksville, Florida. Celeste has told me how very much of a Rays fan that she has become since her surgery. Here's to Celeste... A loyal friend....a loyal fan!

I, too, have learnd to love the Rays! This is my first time to live in a city with a major league team, and the Rays are MY TEAM!! They should be everybody's too. So much fun!!

Thanks Rays!! Go Rays!!

me too! It really didn't take too much ... well, I waited until they were 20+ games over .500 and I just FELL IN LOVE!

I AM A DIEHARD BABY!

You know I moved down here from NEW YORK and still cheer for the Giants but ever since the Rays started doing good (and Yanks and Mets faltered) I am now in full support of the Rays as long as they stay in first place!

GO WINGS!
GO CELTS!
