Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin stepping down to run for president in 2012?

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a surprise announcement today: She is resigning from office at the end of the month. Palin didn't explain why she's stepping down now -- throwing into question whether she would seek a run for the White House in 2012. ( See video of Palin's announcement)

The news rattles a Republican Party plagued with setbacks in recent weeks, including extramarital affairs disclosed by two other 2012 presidential prospects, Nevada Sen. John Ensign and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

Stepping down so she can have her nervous breakdown in private. She's cracked under the pressure as resignation for no other stated cause is certainly not going to help her chances for higher office. Her rambling announcement suggested to me that she has some problem that needs treatment.

She is and has been over-rated - she was only the Governor of Alaska of which is a large state in area only - population of Alaska is next to nothing in comparison to many cities in the US - Alaska only has a population of approximately 686,000 people ! She is not someone we would want running for President - she is unqualified which was proven in the last election.

I am glad she resigned - this just proves she is a quitter and cannot complete her obligations.

I have never seen any political figure critized and ridiculed as much as Sarah Palin has been. From the moment she was named the vice presidential candidate she was slammed by the liberal press. When the press and talk show 'comedians' started on her children she probably thought "enough is enough."

Sarah Palin is uniquely unqualified for any political position. When the going gets tough Palin leaves town. As a lifelong republican, I found myself embarrassed by the last (Bush)administration, and nearly fainted at the prospect of her being VP with a very good chance of inheriting the Presidency. (YIKES!) Obama isn't perfect, but he is trying. We need to end the politicl backfoghting- there is too much work to be done to waste so much energy over name calling and finger pointing.

Keep flogging that long-dead horse. Obama has more experience and qualifications for his age than most people you'd see running for public office. He has a doctorate in law from Harvard, edited the Harvard Law Review, has taught constitutional law, has done charity work, has done community organising work, and had a full ten years experience in public office in the Illinois State Senate and the US Senate (more than Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, his opponents in the primaries, neither of whom I've ever seen criticised as inexperienced).

If studying and teaching constitutional law as well as serving in the Senate isn't "legitimate experience" for the presidential role, I'm not sure what is. I guess it must be worse than dropping out of quite a few colleges, being a small-town city councillor/mayor and being a state governor for a couple of years, though, right?

It doesn't take long to read up on this stuff if you're willing to educate yourself.
