Times column on Sotomayor hearings creating Twitter buzz

Sotomayor St. Petersburg Times TV/media critc Eric Deggans blogged this morning about his outrage over the debate during the Sonia Sotomayor confirmation hearings and its gathering buzz in the Twitter world.

"Never have I wanted more to throw a brick through the screen of my television," he writes — and this from a guy who's watched a lot of bad television. "Watching Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor sit stoically through a succession of white men, perched at the head of the whitest, malest, most powerful political institution in the country -- the U.S. Senate -- telling a Latina from a New York housing project that her Hispanic heritage should mean nothing in her work as a judge, was heartbreaking."

Deggans' post has gotten lots of retweets in the last couple hours. If you like the column, retweet it using the hashtag #deggans.

Mr Deggans attempt to sway opinion(s) away from the underlying issues at hand are typical of a journalist. Perhaps, these examples explain how/why America now finds itself in many of the strange positions it currently resents? Methinks. Regardless, opinionated judges can cause much more harm than good; the same might be said for opinionated journalists. It's really too bad these "opiniations" [sic] did not possess wisdom. Perhaps, the truth might present itself in more of these offerings. Level-headed people don't seek to toss solid objects when they become incapacitated by their inability to control their own emotions. Ironically, this imbalance is appears to resemble (i.e. in principle) the same sort that Sotomayor has appeared to struggle with in her career.

Wow, 20 re-tweets? um, get a clue, that's hardly a "twitter buzz." The lack of social media savvy is disgusting. No wonder you get made fun of.
