Tampabay.com reader Tracy McBride of Tampa shared this amusing photo. McBride says she spotted the truck while visiting her mother in Faribault, Minn., in September. She was out for a walk and passed by a garden filled with "wild expression."

"I have two teenage sons, who both drive, and the setting just spoke to my fears and hopes," McBride said.

Dog or cat? These animals need new homes

 

Are you thinking about a new pet for the holidays? You need not spend a lot of money on this gift: Plenty of cats and dogs are at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay awaiting placement in new homes.

Spice, above, is a "fun-loving and outgoing Jack Russell Terrier mix. She is curious and loves to be at the center of attention," adoption counselor Krissi Cuccia says. Spice recently underwent heartworm treatment and can only have calm leash walks until Nov. 27, Cuccia notes.

Isis, on right, was returned to the shelter when her owners divorced. Cuccia says they hope to find a "forever family who will love and cherish Isis for eternity."

See photos from Eye Ball, Tampa's gala with vision

St. Petersburg Times society writer Amy Scherzer snapped photos at last weekends' Eye Ball, the Lions Eye Institute Foundation's annual fundraiser in Ybor City.  WFLA-Ch. 8 morning anchor Gayle Guyardo and her husband, Mark Pichowski, were there for the charity event.

Guests toured the 12,000-square-foot Ocular Research Center, which collects eye tissue for research and provides corneal transplants to people worldwide. Of the 45,000 cornea transplants done each year in the United States, 10 percent come from the Lions bank, said foundation manager Terry Goldstein.

Your photos: Newborn loggerhead sea turtle

Tiny turtle: David Dunn shared this photo of a one-day-old loggerhead sea turtle he helped protect at Honeymoon Island State Park.

Dunn is a volunteer at Honeymoon Island and discovered the turtle one day recently with a park ranger. "We escorted the babies to the water so the birds would not eat them. After 30 years, they will be back as adults and weigh in at over 300 pounds," he wrote.
