Tampa Bay Rays stadium: St. Petersburg development director Rick Mussett sent an e-mail to the ABC Coalition asking that "appropriate respect be given’’ to the current use agreement on Tropicana Field in the coalition's draft report. The coalition, which has suggested that the Tampa Bay Rays need a new, retractable roof stadium, is scheduled to vote on the draft report Friday.

The children of Bay Point Elementary were amazed at the sight of a huge Black Hawk helicopter sitting on their P.E. field Wednesday morning.

The aircraft and its crew were visiting as part of the Great American Teach-In. Hundreds of parents and volunteers across the Tampa Bay area went to schools to talk about their careers, which included everything from firefighters to politicians to scientists to document shredders.

But one of the coolest props was the Black Hawk, operated by the six-person "Phoenix Dustoff" Army MedEvac unit out of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater airport.

Must-see photos: Leonid meteor shower

The annual Leonid meteor shower is promising to put on a dazzling sky show. St. Petersburg Times photographer Maurice Rivenbark shot this photo about 4 a.m. Tuesday as the  meteor shower neared its peak over the Eastern sky near Floral City.

See a photo gallery of images from Clearwater's Ironman 70.3: German Michael Raelert, competing for just the second time at the Ironman 70.3 distance, won the World Championship in Clearwater on Saturday, shattering the course record by more than six minutes with a time of 3:34:04.

"I didn't expect to be so fast," the 29-year-old triathlete said after winning the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1 mile run. "When I got off the run, I felt a little wobbly. But as the race went on, the better I felt."

The complete interview will air Monday; Palin's book, Going Rogue, officially hits stores on Tuesday, although the Associated Press has already found a copy for sale.

Veterans Day slide show: Veterans were honored across the bay area Wednesday, with the Bay Pines Veteran Affairs Medical Center's annual observance, ceremonies at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, a tribute at Sun City Center, and a parade in Tampa among many events.

Camp Lejeune cancer cases: The U.S. Marine Corps has long assured the public that it closed drinking water wells at Camp Lejeune as soon as it found they were tainted with toxic chemicals. But a St. Petersburg Times review of Marine Corps documents shows the base failed to close the wells for years — despite stark warnings that its drinking water was befouled by industrial cleaning solvents. Foreclosure crisis: Who is at fault for the defaults?
