Revenge of the live chat, Tuesday noon - 1 p.m.
After missing last week's live chat, I'm ready to catch up, but I fear that that the layoff will be bad for business. Take pity on me and come by with a question or comment for Tuesday's live chat between noon and 1 p.m. here on TroxBlog.
To take part in Tuesday's chat, come to TroxBlog at or after noon and look for a new announcement with the headline, "The Oct. 30 chat is OPEN." Click on the "comments" link of that announcement to see what folks have had to say, or to add your own question or comment.
If you'd like to "pre-file" a question or comment in advance, use the comments link of THIS item, just a few lines ago, and I'll try to work it in to the live chat. As always, if you can't be here live, you can come back afterward to read the transcript.
I hope to see you at noon Tuesday!

ANNOUNCEMENT: WEEKLY LIVE CHAT: Join Howard from noon to 1 p.m. each Tuesday here on TroxBlog for a live online chat about current events in Florida and the Tampa Bay area.
I know all the talk today will be about the new and improved tax package. Lets blame this one or that one or this party and that party. But when it comes right down to it, is it not local government that got the windfall and spent it instead of being conservitive. For 5 years they could have lowered the millage rate to collect what they needed to run but instead took the money added another penny to it and spent spent spent.

I know" market value" and "assessed value "but what exactly is "just value" and who or what determines it

I have a question about the city council election and the notice about how much money it will cost if we vote for "new election" instead of Jamie Bennett.
Why is it a bad thing to let the voters know the $248,000 or so price tag? The headline article today (Tuesday) is really bashing the ethics of whether or not to let the voters know ahead of time.
If it is a matter of when and how they notify us, fine, I get it. But in general I read in the rhetoric that it is a "bad thing" to inform us. That I don't get.

This is just fluff. This is not the type of tax reduction that is needed to spark real estate or protect the taxpayers. All the State may succeed at doing is changing the focus of this problem away from the Local Government to Tallahassee. This mess is not over.
Do you think a grass roots movement may evolve from this to eliminate property taxes by substituting an increase in Sales Tax?
