The RFP, Part One

It took the St. Petersburg City Council a little less than two hours to get through its workshop Thursday morning on issuing an invitation to developers for how to redevelop the Tropicana Field site. The council will convene in its regular session at 3 p.m. today to take a formal vote.

The council considered reversing course and allowing public comment this afternoon, but then decided against it since it was short notice & wouldn't be fair to the folks who had already decided not to come. Instead, the council will hold a series of public hearings over the spring -- but heck, they will already have issued the RFP, which is what people today wanted to comment about!

More later.

NUTS.........

“… but then decided against it since it was short notice & wouldn't be fair to the folks who had already decided not to come.”

Ahhh, thanks for keeping my best interests in mind!

“… Instead, the council will hold a series of public hearings over the spring”

Ahhh, springtime in St. Pete. What a perfect time of year to ask what kind of upholstery they want us to put in their new blue car… what; they told us we could buy it, I swear!

… you couldn’t buy this material from a striking Hollywood writer.

I guess Dudley and the other new guy have fallen right into line with the current administration. Too bad. I actually had high hopes for change.

Herb Polson showed himself to be the only person sitting around the long table that did not have his own interest in mind.
The rest of these people, should find new careers ~~ certainly not being the ones that represent the values of those that are supposed to trust them for decisions that effect their property and money.

I for one will push Polson for Mayor.
He cannot possibly lose an election in this city, after playing the lone ranger today.

Just to put a timeline on this fiasco, This will be the second time Leslie Curran will be voting for a new stadium sittng on council.

3:22,

Excellent post. I wonder if you actually know how prophetic it is. Sadly, I’ve seen it happen to many a promising community leader. Kudos’ to Polson for proving that there is potential for a change in that pattern.

But it remains in the hands of the voters… to feed that hope, and bring it to fruition.

ANNOUNCEMENT: WEEKLY LIVE CHAT: Join Howard from noon to 1 p.m. each Tuesday here on TroxBlog for a live online chat about current events in Florida and the Tampa Bay area.

TroxBlog is the blog-home of Howard Troxler, a St. Petersburg Times metro columnist since 1991. His print column normally appears Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays on page 1B.

Born March 19, 1959, in Burlington, N.C., Troxler writes a mix of reporting, analysis, satire and commentary on state and local matters. He considers himself politically unpredictable with libertarian leanings ("I'm for gay marriage WITH gun ownership") but readers routinely conclude he is hopelessly biased against whatever it is they happen to be for. He is married to a woman who has more sense than he does and lives in St. Petersburg.
