... and a gratuitous puppy photograph

I am hoping that they will let us take the black one.

That's the cutest puppy ever. In fact, you should just run that puppy's mugshot with your column. Think of the reader reaction.

I'd vote for that puppy for Mayor of St. Petersburg...

People, witness the devastating effects of unbridled cuteness. I'm now melting into a little puddle of puppy-loving mush.

Hey Howard:
I am soooo happy for you and your wife that you are going to adopt a new, sweet puppy - a new puppy takes a lot of work, but well worth it considering the love they bestow - just don't leave any shoes lying about unguarded!:-)
Blessings!

I can see you grinning from ear to ear now.....what a lucky puppy to be gaining YOUR family for it's new home and refuge. Can't wait to hear what you name him!! With those GORGEOUS eyes, it's going to be difficult......to find the PERFECT name.....HAPPY TRAILS!

Cant you have all three of them? I know the cats will like that! So happy you are finally able to consider a new puppy to replace Harry. Have fun

Good for you Howard! I had to put my little guy after 15 years to rest last year but the enjoyment of his love, devotion and companionship will in my heart remain forever. Name the little guy "Trox"!

Such adorables! Have fun!

Congratulations. Really cute. I needed a break, and that photo made my evening.

Absolutely adorable!

Why is it that the BLACK dog is being picked? You think it will be the "easiest to train"???

ANNOUNCEMENT: WEEKLY LIVE CHAT: Join Howard from noon to 1 p.m. each Tuesday here on TroxBlog for a live online chat about current events in Florida and the Tampa Bay area.

TroxBlog is the blog-home of Howard Troxler, a St. Petersburg Times metro columnist since 1991. His print column normally appears Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays on page 1B.

Born March 19, 1959, in Burlington, N.C., Troxler writes a mix of reporting, analysis, satire and commentary on state and local matters. He considers himself politically unpredictable with libertarian leanings ("I'm for gay marriage WITH gun ownership") but readers routinely conclude he is hopelessly biased against whatever it is they happen to be for. He is married to a woman who has more sense than he does and lives in St. Petersburg.
