It would be foolish to stop televising the games. The team would be "out of sight and out of mind" for most people. Not televising the games would probably hurt attendance because people would not be familiar with the team. I also think it is way too early to worry about the attendance. People have been pointing to this past series with the Yankees as evidence that attendance won't go up with more wins. I disagree. No one I have heard has said anything about the fact that it was a 4 game series, meaning that the majority of fans that will only attend 1 game in a series were spread out over 4 games instead of 3 games or even 2. Thus, the per game average is lower. Also, the Yankees were just here a couple of weeks ago, so it wasn't the first chance to see them. Finally, 2 of the Yankees best players (A-Rod and Posada) are injured. Because their team isn't at full strength, some Yankee fans probably sat this series out, too.

Dear Tom,
I'm a big fan of page 2 and your column.I usually agree with everything you say.How- ever,I must disagree with you with your take on the Rays two announcers.I think they are the absolute worst on tv.The incident with the umpire is just another example why.I watch all the games and I use the mute button every time so I don't have to listen to those two.I won't hold your position against you I will still enjoy your column.Keep up the good work.Al Brown
