« Who will be the Lightning's next coach? | Main | NBA Finals preview -- Two Cents style »

Torts should read this article and then reread it. Between Tom's words is a primer on how John can be more effective in his next assignment.

It is not likely that Jones and his colleagues will be treated to such a colorful new coach in the forseeable future. Most coaches do not like to parade their emotions, communicate their unhappiness with specific players, and flaunt their team's dirty laundry before the press. Many teams have tacit rules about grousing to the media that apply to all front office people, coaches, and players. They prefer to handle their own problems internally and avoid bad publicity and hurt feelings. Of course, people occasionally slip, but that is not generally condoned. One might never agree with Torts' lack of concern for keeping his own counsel, but the guy makes great copy.

It has been reported that referees are people too. At either a conscious or unconscious level, they might be subject to inimidation by a vociferously quarrelsome coach or arch their backs with resentment from being embarrassed by same. Some have speculated that the Bolts had been subjected to some unpleasant treatment from the league's stripes because of John's well-publicized tirades.

Torts would be a dream come true for the Toronto media. His repartee is even better than most of stuff that their reporters stay awake all night making up. If the Leafs hire John, I'm definitely going to subscribe to the Toronto Star.

All in all, it seems clear that the NHL is better off having John Tortorella in its midst, but, at this point, not in Tampa Bay where hockey writers will probably now have to work a little harder to produce interesting stories. Sorry about that, Tom.

Write it down: Torts will wind up sticking it straight up our (Lightning's) pooper one day.

Hey "Voice of the Turtle" - Shut your yap.
