Update: 6:10 p.m.
Steve Duemig, arrested on suspicion of DUI early Sunday morning, addressed the incident on his WDAE radio show at 3 p.m. Here is a sampling of some of his comments:
* "This is a very difficult situation and I will face it like a man.''
* "It was an unfortunate situation I was involved with on Sunday morning. ... I will face it and go from there and let the legal system take its course. ... I was literally in the driveway of my home.''
* "I apologize for putting the station on turd watch. ... It's not fun. I apologize to the station for putting us on a negative view.''
* "There are a lot of haters out there that will have a field day. That's expected. When you're the top dog, they come after you. They're going to attack. I can accept that. It's not fun going through it. This is not a prepared statement. This is from the heart.''
* "Many, many, many, many, many more make the decision to drive home than don't. And you can consider yourself very fortunate if you've never been pulled over.''
* "I apologize. I will accept the hate. I hope you don't use hypocrite (to call me.) I don't go after athletes who have been charged because it can happen to anyong.
* "I want to thank the station for supporting me. It has been very, very comforting to have some of the big, big hitters in this company saying, 'We'll get through it.' ''
WDAE-AM sports talk show host Steve Duemig was arrested early Sunday morning near the Feather Sound area in St. Petersburg on suspicion of driving under the influence. Duemig, also known as the "Big Dawg,'' hosts what is probably the most popular sports talk radio show in the Tampa Bay area.
Reached Monday afternoon, Duemig had no comment other than to say he would address the arrest on his radio show, which begins at 3 p.m.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's department report, Duemig was pulled over in his white Lexus at 1:39 a.m. Sunday morning. He was booked at 3:11 a.m. and released at 10:15 a.m. No other details were available.

Tom Jones doesn't sing "It's Not Unusual'' or shake his hips (well, unless you're willing to pay cash), but he does have plenty to say about sports. If it's funny, crazy, weird, irreverent or worth arguing, Tom has his opinions. So pull up a chair and get his two cents -- and give him your two cents, as well.
E-mail Tom Jones:
He quit tobacco. Hopefully now he can quit the sauce. Unlikely, but it would be wise.

Steve...if you read these, keep one thing in mind. You've been right on the money when you state that you've never seen so many "goobers" in one place. Sometimes it's embarrassing to know these idiots live amongst us.

Whats that saying people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. ANyone who supports this jackass after he did his Rush Limbaugh holier then though bit on Bucs like Stevens, Bryant, ect. is just as ignorant. It always is the case that people who look to tear others down like Dumeg does daily, are the ones truly in need to be torn down.

tampa bay needs to cut the big dog some slack. yeah, he may seem caustic to you at times but maybe that's because you deserved it. yeah he might have put you in your PLACE at times but that's because you're probably a NY/BOS fan (disgusting). the big dog is a huge part of tampa bay sports and he deserves respect. he speaks out on behalf of ALL OUR TAMPA BAY TEAMS. he does his job and he does it well. he made a mistake. don't crucify him for that. we all make mistakes. he's an asset to this community. let's keep the big dog around for a long time to come!!!!!

Please stop with the accusations. Just because he got a DUI doesn't mean he's an alcoholic.

today's sptimes newspaper says its his 3rd DUI thats jail time baby
Don't we have a 3 time loser law? Life in prison, but he can still broadcast from clear channel. Fire him now

3 DUI's means no license for 10 years. Look at the bright side-No Lexus payments. That must be expensive. What would the auto insurance be on a Lexus be after 3 DUI's. Fire him now. Jail him later

"
You people are pathetic.
"He sounds like a drunk and bets on sports."
Guess what? THAT'S COOL! That's how people have fun! Drinking and sports betting are two of the best activities I can think of.
You booze rookies are the people who get bombed twice a year and kill people on the road."
Chuck.....the definition of a big dog listener....I hope you get a DUI to you RETARD!

TB_FAN Dude he made the same "mistake" at least 3 times. Because he got caught that many times. what goes around comes around. He holds others to standards that he has not intentions of following himself. Fire him then jail him. As for other stations to listen 2. How about the Internet or the fat sports bull**** and gator boy. You remember gator boy Steve Duemig kicked his a**.LOL LOL loser dog. everyday Clear channel keeps him on the air means that they condone mulitiple DUI's
Posted by: Loser Dog | June 17, 2008 at 09:06 AM
Everytime I go to Courtside this jackass is pounding booze at the corner bar. He's a raging drunk and now owns his own bar. Those 2 things don't mix and it's sad but this wont be the last time this happens.

"WDAE needs to step up to the plate and fire him. It's all very simple. DUI is just one small step away from mass murder, and he should pay the price accordingly with his job and at least 2 years in the slammer.
Posted by friend of MADD"
SCREW YOU!! These type of comments are COMPLETELY irrational & irresponsible. But what do you expect from "Friend of MADD"? ...(idiot). I don't particularly like or dislike Steve Duemig or his show. All you haters must have miserable lives to take this situation so personally. He's just a guy on the radio. Nothing more. If you hate him that much STOP LISTENING!

"
I hope he gets fired and Justin Palowski can get his spot. Justin is the best sports talk host in Tampa. He is fair and does not have an agenda like this loser.
This could be the break Justin has needed. For all of the sports talk fans in this town, lets hope so."
Sorry Mrs. Palowski, but your boy is a fat-arsed whiner who is years away from even being mediocre.

>>>>>>Sileo may be the worst talk show host in the history of radio.
Why does he have a job?<<<<<<<
Finally, something I believe we can all agree on. I wondered for years how he draws a check.

To Romantik- TKraz and Pepper do a good job on 1010. I definitely know what is happening in Tampa after listening to them. I could care less about the Orlando sports area You say there is no opinion on that show, well you really don't listen. That show is so much better than the garbage on 620 in the morning.
As for Deumig, the time frame on that first DUI in Florida is probably long enough before the stricter laws took place, but a third DUI should mean jail time. Whether it was 100 miles or 1 mile, it's an embarrassment and a crime. It's probably even worse just the 1 mile as he could've and should've walked home and gotten the car in the morning after he slept it off. 7 hours in jail means it took him 7 hours to show no alcohol impairment. That's pretty drunk. And racing the cop to get to your own driveway is no excuse. This is not a game of tag where you get to a "safe" place.
Please stop apologizing to your company for embarrassing them and start apologizing to the people on the roads at that time whose lives you endangered (and their loved ones as well). And for those that think that is extreme, just ask Steve Wilson, the former Buc who killed a woman while driving drunk.

i'm sorry but justin palowski (sp) is light years away from duemig as far as being an interesting, engaging host. there's a reason the big dog occupies the afternoon spot and palowski works weekeends.
and while y'all are having a hate-fest against tampa bay sports talk radio hosts, please do not forget to trash sileo. he's the most obnoxious yankee homer i've ever heard. he should be fired just for being a jackass.

I haven't heard anybody mention Bobby Fenton over at 1010 yet. He goes 9-noon and runs a real nice, energetic show, knows his stuff and doesn't talk down to people. Krasniqi is great too.
As far as Duemig, say what you will about him and his mistakes, but do not make this about hypocrisy. He ripped Jerramy Stevens for date r@pe and stomping on the face of a downed kid in a high school fight, not as much for the DUI's. Again, I'm not defending anything he's done, I'm just saying - don't make this about what Duemig has said about other people. He has been very onjective when it comes to DUI in the past.

"I don't go after athletes who have been charged because it can happen to anyong"
Not true Big Dog - not at all. It can only happen to those that are out drinking and driving. You're 53 years old for God's sake - Grow up.
"Many, many, many, many, many more make the decision to drive home than don't. And you can consider yourself very fortunate if you've never been pulled over.''
Is that not an admission of guilt? You make the decision before you start to drink by having a designated driver or giving up your keys. Quit making excuses and be accountable - YOU HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM

By employing someone who has had multiple DUI's 620am is supporting the fact that it is okay to get behind the wheel of a car impaired and drive drunk
620 needs to fire Duemig, regroup and take a better stance in the sports talk market. Its better to rebuild then to have him hanging over their heads.

The guy had the nerve of accusing me of stealing beers from a tee box cooler at a charity golf tournament. Hey I took a few beers home with me but I heard everyone was swilling beer that day. So what's the big deal. But he devoted an hour of his program to complain about beers being pilfered from the coolers.
Sad man Sad.

"Big Dog," regardless of what he does in his personal life, is the worst sports radio host I have ever heard. While living in Tampa, I was embarrassed to be a sports fan because I know he was on the air due to listener support. Whenever he called the people of Tampa 'goobers' I always thought that deep down inside, he was being ironic. He never offered any true insight when I listened, he can barely speak, clearly has a gambling problem, consistently made racist remarks and his ignorance is legendary. Top that off with his 'holier than thou' mentality and it is no wonder I stopped turning the dial to 620 at 3pm. I already knew he was a hypocrite from day one when he slammed listeners for rooting for their former hometown teams instead of going local, but then spent all of his time trashing USF football. It was sad living in Tampa, because I have always rooted for the home teams and I knew Duemig's success was a result of a majority of fans fitting the same description above.

Oh, and Feather Sound: how some class, you don't take beer home from any event. That includes charity events, family events, holiday or office parties. Even when you take beer to your friends house to watch a game, don't take back what you don't drink.
Posted by: cg | June 23, 2008 at 04:33 PM
You guys are such hypocrites. Steve Duemig seems to be a good guy and did something many of you have done. I highly doubt all of you have called a cab every single time you've been over the legal limit. If you haven't, you are just as guilty as he is. Judge not as ye should be judged first.

"I already knew he was a hypocrite from day one when he slammed listeners for rooting for their former hometown teams instead of going local, but then spent all of his time trashing USF football."
I can't stand Duemig but I have to correct this. He's said many times that the whole "hometown" deal doesn't apply to colleges - and it shouldn't. I'm not going to abandon the Gators for the damn Sun Devils should I move to Arizona anytime soon. True he has waffling loyalties, though (he was a HUGE Canes fan but when they got bad he suddenly said he wasn't big on them, then he became a HUGE Urban Meyer fan to cover up his jones for the Gators but now he seems to be laying the ground for a Canes run again).
Duemig took issue with the USF fans with completely unrealistic expectations (a BCS title and Heisman for Grothe when it wasn't even midseason) and who were getting snobby with fans of established teams with more than a lower tier bowl title. The USF fans in question just got uppity and couldn't handle being told to have healthy but grounded expectations and got all crybaby.
And I do wonder if Tom Jones would have gone to so much detail here had Duemig not torn him to pieces after the whole Eight Belles mess at the Kentucky Derby.

Steve Duemig just like Chris Thomas are criminals. Only now Chris Thomas is a deceased criminal. I remember Mr. Thomas case well. He cursed out the lady he hit in an accident while he was DUI. Yes real class, and than DAE has a drive to raise money for a millionaires daughter to go to college after Mr. Thomas died and they name the studio after him on top of that. I do not listen to that crappy station with the illiterates on the air that can not speak basic syntax . They use double negatives and add preps to the end of sentences. That station sucks , all they do is brag about free food they get while on the air... COMPLETELY CLASSLESS
Have another drink Duemig.

David flunked remedial reading and writing. He's a little salty today.
Posted by: | January 18, 2009 at 12:11 AM
I am not a talk show host. The fact is I believe talk show hosts should speak proper syntax. None of the hosts on DAE can not speak properly . They are all good at bragging about the free food they get. What classless pigs , that whole station . I at least never got a DUI and I am smart enough to let my GF drive when I do drink .
Posted by: David | January 20, 2009 at 07:42 PM
The hosts of DAE can not speak properly. Just correcting myself. Again at least I know when I make a grammatical error. I just don't keep going like the dumbass Duemig or the other scumbags on DAE. 1040AM rocks !!!!
