Isn't every last play of a baseball game a "walk-off"? Nobody ever raves about a walk-off routine pop up to the shortstop.

Almost as irritatingly overused is the term "ground rule double". There is no ballpark in the world where the ground rules don't grant a double on a batted fair ball that bounces over the outfield fence.

Ok, so the term "walk-off" has been around for like 20 years at least, so why the big fuss this year? This is the third column I have read that this baseball season.

>>>Ok, so the term "walk-off" has been around for like 20 years at least<<<

until about five years ago, i never heard the term "walk off." and i follow baseball pretty closely.

i had, however, heard the term "game-winning."
