Ponton, Verpaele depart
Running back Ricky Ponton and safety Danny Verpaele have been suspended for the 2007 season. Reasons for the suspensions are not available. Ponton has decided to transfer, as will redshirt freshman linebacker LeBrandon Glover. Kicker Mike Benzer is leaving the team to focus on academics.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
I support coach Leavitt 100%.If these 'clowns' want to end up working at 7-11 someday that's o.k. with me,just keep bringing in fresh bodies.WHATASHAME!

Greg,
What impact will this have on the APR ratings for next year? Will graduations offset the transfers? How does that work?

Nick:
Assuming your comments are directed toward Ponton, well said! Between Thed Watson, Josh Julmiste, and now Ricky Ponton, it seems like the second offense ought to be enough to boot 'em. Once a guy is caught twice, the chance of a third seems to be quite high (pun intended). The less of these selfish, ungrateful guys we have to cause problems, the better.

I'm comfused. Yesterday on the TV news they were saying that both Ponton and Verpaele were "academic casulties." Is that true or was only Verpaele?

Could you please follow Ponton on where he might be transfering. Hopefully he can land somewhere to start.

Too bad about Glover. He is only a redshirt freshman and his playing time in the future has not been determined. Ponton has talent but drugs have led him downhill and he is probably our worst returning back anyways. Verpale has been a disappointment since a promising freshman season. Benzer tried but could not cut it and we need to use the scholarship on a kicker that gets the job done. How about calling Kyle Bronson back and admitting that we made a mistake. I do not believe Alvarado is the answer.

What is going to be of our kicker situation for this year? Last year all our kickers stunk. Now all be have is the inaccurate Alvarado? USF better not have it come down to a game winning FG or they are doomed!
