USF hires S.C. assistant as women's golf coach

Kornegay Marci Kornegay, an assistant coach at South Carolina for the past three years, has been hired as head women's golf coach at USF.

Kornegay, a 28-year-old from Savannah, Ga., has worked as an assistant coach on the college level for six seasons, coaching at LSU and Winthrop before joining the staff at South Carolina. She was a standout golfer at Mississippi from 1997-2001, earning the team's low cumulative score in each of her last three seasons. Her first day at USF will be July 9.

The Bulls were coached last season by former USF star Kelly Lagedrost, who filled in after longtime coach Susan Holt left in August to become head coach at Notre Dame. Lagedrost stepped down last month to focus on her professional playing career, currently on the Futures Tour.

South Carolina finished in a tie for ninth in the NCAA East Regionals last month, missing the cut for the NCAA tournament by four strokes and finishing 10 strokes ahead of USF, which took 17th.

The Bulls graduate five of the 11 players on this spring's roster, but the returning cast is led by rising senior Christina Jones, who finished fourth individually in the Big East tournament and had the team's low round in the NCAA regionals. Gennifer Mendez, a rising junior, had the team's second-lowest round in the Big East tournament, tying for 10th.

Greg, I like golf and all, but what happened to all of that information you lost Friday? You said you would have something for us today. Where is it? Come on, I'm dying for some football news...any kind. At any rate, good looking out on your work with the USF Athletic Program. I am fan of your blogspot. KEEP IT COMING.

Michael ... I took a few days for vacation, and I'll get a football post up tonight, especially focusing on the four players who are no longer with USF's football program. Just hold a few more hours ...

Hope you enjoyed your vacation. It's Monday....NOW GET BACK TO WORK. LOL, naw just joking. I really appreciate the USF coverage. I will be patient.
